What the subject says- Is the lower alternator bolt a 3/8-16 or a M8x1.25? Need to know so i can pull it out and replace it with a 6.5" or 175ish mm bolt. Don't ask. The head feels real loose in a 9/16 so I'm thinking M8?
should be metric, very little sae stuff since early 80s
i know the body on our trucks are metric, I've dealt with both ends. Thought the motor was SAE though. Oh well, I have both bolts…guess I'll find out when i yank the old one out.
It's gotta be 3/8" It's loose in a 9/16, but I can't fit a 17/32 on the bolt (which fits an M8 13mm head). Next bump up from 17/32 is 18/32 = 9/16. Or it could be a 14mm head, but those are only used on JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) M10 bolts, which I can't see dodge having used. Plus 14mm works out to 8.8/16, which would be fairly snug in a 9/16 wrench. Then again, I would expect a 9/16 to be snug in a 9/16 wrench too.

From THIS DF POST, looks like a great bit of the front drive stuff is SAE, so I will try to get this front drive motor put on tomorrow. Hoping it's a 1 shot thing, I only have so many spacers.
