Merry Christmas & the chase for my elusive title
Hey guys, first off and foremost, sending out a yuuuge Merry Christmas to everyone and your loved ones, hope your holidays are perfect in every way, it has been an *clears throat* interesting year for our planet.
Some of you might remember my post(s) about my newly bought Dakota and the sellers claim of not being able to find the title.
Well I have actually been talking to the person that is currently on title although still lost. He has moved to Mississippi. I have also been talking to our motor vehicle people here (MVD) in Arizona. Yesterday I have started the legal course of obtaining my title which I am sure will happen but it appears that it will be a bonded title, which is fine with me I know the back story and have no issues.
The weird part is MVD has shared with me the guy actually ordered a replacement title on Nov 4 but now refuses to talk to myself or MVD. MVD as I am is not happy with his conduct. Anyways, the plot thickens.
Again, happy holidays everyone.

I had a bad feeling from day one on this Dakota I know Arizona trust no one lots of shady people land of the Skunks.
Some info
It should be noted that a bonded title does not absolutely guarantee ownership of the vehicle and can be disputed. In most cases, a bonded title is considered to be a "provisional" document, and can sometimes be challenged for some time after the certificate has been issued. In many states, a bonded title can be challenged up till three years after its original issue date.
Sounds like this guy can make things a real hell for you if he wants now you have an albatross an auto that your stuck with that you cant do anything with and cant sell as its not your truck.
A 100% loss with a piece of junk you cant do anything with not even a junkyard would touch it.

Alas, you're not in Indiana. Indiana requires that you deliver title to a vehicle when you sell it. Until 1984, Kentucky didn't have titles so it was the land of chop shops back then. Indiana got tired of legal challenges.
We did try to warn you.
That does have a fair few red flags to it...... You would be REALLY pissed if six months down the road, you have a nice running truck, and the previous owner comes back and disputes ownership. You would lose......
Interesting year? Yep. Putting it mildly.
Merry Christmas to you and yours as well.

The simplest solution would be to buy another Dakota that's a crumbly pile of rust, that still has a good title and an intact identiplate. Then, swap the plates. This way your truck will have a good title. When Mr Slimer comes for "his" truck, you can point him at the trash heap and tell him to take it away. You'd just need to know where all the identiplates are. No idea how to get the special rivets that hold them in though.

No! You do NOT want to swap VIN plates. That is a sure way to get in deep doo doo. We're talking a Federal Offence there. There are hidden VINs on the vehicle and if it is ever investigated, you're looking at fraud at the least. When the police start looking, they will look into everything. The problem with titles is every state is different. In Indiana, you'd go to court for the title as the original owner has refused to deliver it.
I'd hold off on spending more money and time on the truck until this is resolved.
