Not sure what the 1 wire to 2 wire differences are, I thought the jtec controllers were the same. Email HPT and see if you can get some clarification. I do know that the Dak is supposed to be supported since it goes by the controller, which the Durango has the same one. I will also dig deeper for a definitive answer.

The JTEC controller is the PCM right ?

on previous years up to the 2000 Dakota's they have the CCD Bus 2 wire communication system, and later on from 2001 Chrysler changed to a PCI Bus system with 1 wire communication.

This is why i have the CEL light and P1698 ( No Communication between PCM and TCM ) when i changed my TCM from a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

I will send an email and ask if mine 2000 is supported.

Got my answer, pretty fast service from HP Tuners.

Hello Ludo,
Thank you for contacting HPT Support.
Unfortunately this is not a supported vehicle and you'll not be able to tune it. https://www.hptuners.com/vehicles/

Sincerely,Eric Krupp

Wow that is messed up. Glad to hear they got back so fast. I will have to send them the same email on my truck. AFAIK, it is supported since the Durango is using the same controller.

When i look at the list, yours ain't supported either..... 2002 right ?

Strange thing is Durangos will.

I do know you have the PCI Bus communication, so i do think you would be fine, can't think why there's a difference in Dak or Dur....

But i recommend you too send them a mail to confirm

I could have sworn I saw a thread on their forums stating a motorhead was tuning the 2002 Dakota 4.7 engine. I created a ticket and asked about my truck and mentioned the 4.7 durango. Will see what they come back with.

Here is a forum post from HPT themselves, both yours and my trucks are listed...

Updates... got the same no-go from HPT. Asking for a list of controller p/n's to investigate a swap to a supported controller.

Swapped out plugs last night, no SOTP change detected on loop drive after (8 miles). One plug looks like it is not getting enough fuel, all of them looked in good shape. Took out Autolites and put in the NGK ZFR6F-11G plugs. On the way into work today however, zero downshifting going up all of the hills while in CC. That was not the case on the previous 3 trips into work.

Filled up after 3 trips to work, 248.4 miles, 15.943 gal, 15.582 mpg

And a followup from HPT... oh yeah...

@V8Cowboy I replied and asked to confirm yours as well...

Looking at that post... seems that your year model and engine are supported 00-02 Dakota 4.7.
To note your original message asked 'And, can you confirm that my MPV1 will not work with the JTEC controller?'
- as you may have seen in the post history you cannot use the MPVI for this particular project you will need to upgrade unfortunately.

Response from HPT...

I would say the post is official, thats what we support.
The web page mostly up to date, seems we are missing your model year.

If your friends truck is on that list your good to go.

Kind regards
Daryl

Hi Steve, that's good news then, our models are listed in the older version MPVI, but we need the new version MPVI 2+ and it will work ?

The spark plugs made a good improvement, did not expect this much change, well done.
