05 Durango just quits??
I am jumping here. I am currently considering purchasing a 2006 Dodge Durango Limited w/Hemi, very close.
After reading this forum I realize that this is probably what happened to my 2006 Go-Mango Daytona Edition Charger.
The night I was driving it home from the dealership it sputtered/coughed a few times and I thought it rather funny.
The next morning on my way to work it quit on the upside of a very busy off ramp. I was able to start a few times(after waiting an hour and some no starts)and get get a couple of hundred feet to the other side of the ramp and away from the busy traffic.
The dealership kept the vehicle for 2-3 weeks over the holidays(Xmas 2005)and when they returned it only indicated there were computer problems.
I have had no problems since, however it is always in the back of my mind..........................

I've yet to see anyone mention that they've had problems with their 4.7, so I guess I may be the first. Sounds like I'm having an identical issue with my 4.7 - it's died a few times going through drive-thrus, and two or three times at around 35 mph, nearly causing an accident both times. I should mention that my stalling problems seem to be related to what started as a slightly rough idle. It's progressively getting worse. When I called the local dealership to schedule an appointment, I was told that they'd never heard of the problem. After they checked it out and told me they detected the problem and couldn't do anything about it, they said it was a very common problem but there was no solution. They indicated that it was mostly a Hemi problem, but they'd seen it on many 4.7's, too. Needless to say, I'm not happy - particularly because I'm now out of warranty. I bought the truck used with 15k on the odometer, I guess in the excitement of buying it I didn't notice the rough idle initially - it's not all that evident at the higher RPM's of warm up.
I'm now in a postition where I can't get the thing fixed, I'm only one year in to my loan, and I have little confidence in this thing. I suppose my only hope is that a fix is found and it's not going to cost an arm and a leg.

Hello,
I've had my '05 D Hemi for a year now and have had the stall issue several times. Usually, this happens when making a quick decel combined with a change in inclination such as turning into a driveway, turning into a parking spot, etc.
My dealer told me 'never heard of it.' They checked for error codes, nothing.
Recently I installed a new cold air intake thinking if I can change air pressure in the system slightly it might be able to affect idle drop (stall). I think it has improved the situation as I was unable to force a stall after the upgrade. We'll see...

I have an 05 Hemi Durango & I've had it happened to me a couple of times but tonight it happend again& now the truck does not want to turn backon. I had to have it towed back home. Has anyone had they're Durango not turn back on? I tried disconnecting the battery for a couple of hours to see if it would reset the PCM but it still won't turn over.
Interesting.....Until two weeks ago, I had not experienced any real problems with my 04 Limited Hemi D. One time, after about 10,000 miles or so, I was at a light and accidently hit the underside of the steering column with my knee and all of the warnings lit, and stayed lit, the air quit working, and the truck started to miss. Aside from the radio changing stations randomly (there is a TSB as well on some wiring harness inside the steering column), I had no more issues until three weeks ago. I was parked at my local parts store, and the thing would start, idle for two seconds, and shut right off. I tried to start it probably 15-20 times. Got the wife on the phone, thinking maybe the gas gauge was wrong and I was out, get back in, and she fires right up, and no problems since.
I'm wondering about the previous post about the Cold Air Intake. I've had one since the truck was basically brand new, and a Borla exhaust as well. I wonder if that really could have prevented the problem in my ride?

I have a first generation 01 Durango with the 4.7 and I am having the same stalling problem. I have replaced the idle position sensor three times now, solves the problem for 6 to 8 months and then it suddenly starts happening again.
I have an 05 Durango with the 4.7L engine. Back in December the dealer updated the transmission control module, and now the vehicle will just stall at random times. Typically it happens when it's cold, but it has occurred 3 times in the past 2 days. The dealer has had it now for several days and it will not do it for them.
There were a couple of service bulletins issued for this exact problem, but it only occurred supposedly with a Hemi. I have seen other people on this forum with the same problem on the 4.7L engine. I just got off the phone with Dodge corp and got some additional help supposedly from the regional manager. The rep did acknowledge, sort of, that they were aware of a problem.
Anyone have more suggestions for this issue?

Hey I have a 99 Durango, but went thru this exact problem at 56,000 miles, dealer could not figure it out. So I researched it on here and other websites and came to the conclusion it was the PCM(powercontrol module) the dealer tried to tell me if was the ctm and I had that changed but it did not fix the problem. So took it back to dealer and had to demand from a zone rep. that they replace the PCM, still under warranty up to 80,000, took hours of fighting with them. Had to pretty much threaten them with a lawsuit if this stalling happened and I was involved in an accident, this is so unsafe. Got a new PCM and never had another stalling issue. I don't know if this is the same issue with the newer ones but it does seem possible.
Mybetter halfdrives an 05 Hemi powered Durango. It suffers from the problem described in this thread. The issue only occurs while turning and braking. It has NEVER happened during acceleration or straightline braking. From some of the previous post I believe this is a common theme. HoweverI cannot think of anything that would be affected by this combo except for the fuel pump/pickup. Any ideas?I have had this in to the dealer after research recommended a tech note that required flashing the computer. It has not stopped the problem. This vehicle is bone stock, no upgrades.
I purchased an 05 Durango 4.7 in Jan 06. In August, it started doing the same thing. Seems to only occur when I am slowing down to turn right. It's happened 5 times since August. No lights come on on the dashboard and I have to come to a complete stop, put it in park and then restart it. I've almost been rear ended and almost hit a Miata last week. I've had it at the dealer twice. "If we can't duplicate the problem, we can't resolve it". First time I took it in, they said my "throttle body" needed cleaning. Of course, this was not covered by my warranty, but, in the hopes of fixing the problem, I paid to have it done. I plan to print this thread and take it to my dealer so hopefully then can finally fix it or at least acknowledge the problem. If not, they can buy it back. I have been VERY frustrated with this and was very happy to find this thread so I know I am not crazy!
