Yeah I used red rtv between the extension housing and the tail housing as you can see here earlier this week. In looking at the FSM and Haynes, there is a lack of info on pulling off the tail housing (if I'm calling that correctly). I noticed an output bearing on the shaft.

So what do you guys call the "housing" between the extension and the main case? And what is the effort in redoing the RTV there? It doesn't seem that basic like the extension housing one.

Default Mini SAR

Called Friday night by a friend to go out looking for another set of friends out camping and shooting. They found a healthy snow drift and got the 4Runner stuck.

These are the only pictures I got. We left at 9pm and got back 5am. About a 2 hour drive to get up to the Monitor Pass area. Then another 2 hrs to find them as we did have GPS coordinates. Quite finicky to use depending on devices.

This was on a hill with a grade of about 7-8%. Snow was about 4' at deepest and about 8 rig lengths long. I was able to pull around on the sage brush/snow, hook up with strap and dead pull him out. This was after checking with floor jack and blocks under the front for clearance/obstructions to undercarriage.

Then I had to make a path to get out by compacting the snow. Finished off with re-airing the tires back up.

Fun stuff.

That is called the output bearing retainer housing. It is not difficult to remove at all. If you still have a snap ring in your tcase, you just remove that in addition to the bolts that secure it to the Tcase half, and it will come off with a bit of wiggling. If you have a Tcase saver (which you SHOULD! ) you just take that collar off with the 4 bolts and it comes off. Since you have an '01 you don't even have to fiddle with the speed sensor like me.

EDIT: By the way that rear seal looks much better.

Tried the 91 tune out on my SCT. There's was more power that I felt but mileage was worse than the 87 octane was. Drove only 35 miles and used almost a 1/4 tank of gas. I only got on it hard twice up to 3,000 rpm's.

Did you remember to top off the tank after you changed tunes?

Did some stuff to dad's truck today:
Topped off coolant, checked and added R134, rinsed off coolers, scrubbed windshield, cleaned front windows, cleaned inside windshield and front windows, rain-x'd windshield and windows. Oh yeah, and polished at the headlights.

Just gotta get gas and fill the tires then it's read to go for NC!

Installed my new sport headlights. Still waiting on wiring kit from Daniel Stern. One of the lenses fell of the original so I have to make do. :-)
