What Did You Do To Your 2ND GEN RAM Today?
I picked up the phone and ordered 2 CV axles, 2 upper control arms and 2 lower ball joints for my truck. All from Rock Auto. Moog uppers/ball joints and for you's guys who don't have to worry about CVs (I do admit I miss my old '98s SFA), I decided to try Cardone HD CVs with thermoplastic boots.
I've been driving for better than 5000 miles with almost no rubber left on a single ball joint (amazingly they still function fine), but I had an inner CV boot shred this past weekend and started throwing grease everywhere. Just a matter of time till it either gets crud in it or runs dry of grease and fails. So I might as well take care of all at once.
Me thinks my fishing treks around the intercoastal and splashing around salt water is prematurely doing my rubber boots in. I lost the transfer case linkage rod last year because the bushings disintegrated away. I'm hoping the thermoplastic boots on the CVs do better than rubber did...

2500 and 3500 still use SFA. ford f250 and f350 still use it as well. GMC/chevy is the only one that went to IFS on the HD trucks... and they have been paying for it too... put too much torque to them in 4x4 (which most of the modified diesels do) and it snaps the tie rods.
it still does exist, just not in a 1500...

Anyways todays plan is to paint rear bumper (well shoot black and the primered area) and hopefully reattach it. Will see how much I get done
Anyways I ended up just shooting over the whole bumper with flat black. Ill post pics when I remount it after it dries.
i might be able to sandblast the passenger side manifold but i am not sure if the weather will allow me to paint it.
duplicolor engine enamel. $12 a can. they all seem to have the same heat rating.
What kinda paint ya use for it CW, high heat i presume but like tremclad? Rust Coat? Gloss blacks always seem to have a lower heat rating I've noticed as well.

Hmm must be brand dependant then. I know for fact tremclad and rust coat (home hardware special) are lower temp ratings in gloss finish then in flat. Looks good either way dude
