That's what I was mostly after in getting a new truck or another used. Also looking into converting this truck into an Ext. or Quad cab, but a frame swap would be needed and that seems like more hassle than it's worth.
Also, one more thing to add to the list
New Headlight housings and add a relay
Kid's have been and gone... still have my SC/SB
I am of the same mindset though... sprinkle some funds into the old girl is still going to be cheaper than buying new... Hmm, what can I do for $3-400/month?
Coming up on 200k, the idea will be to do something every quarter before a failure and it all needs to be done at once.

I thought mine were too...... now it's grand kids. My grandson LOVES to ride around in the truck, and with me, him, and two dogs, the standard cab would bet a bit crowded..... Of course, when I bought the truck, I needed seating for six, and that was before the dogs.......
fetched parts for My S10 in it. New brake rotors and brake pads for the rear brakes on the ol 87 S10 (I did an axle swap a couple years ago on it to convert to limited slip and disc brakes. axle is out of a 98 4x4 blazer)
I believe I snapped an axle shaft, or the u-joint is just completely done, but, intact. Had to use 4x4 on my 1200KM trip on the highways, it was a whiteout the whole way, with ice covered roads and snow blowing everywhere. When I got into town, I shifted to 2Hi and all I hear is clink, clink, clink, clink, pull over and check and the axle shaft moves side to side, up and down, slightly in and out. Put it back in 4Hi and it stops
Passenger hub assembly broke last night. Need to get it towed to the shop tonight before the snow hits again. I luckily have a spare hub assembly for such an occasion haha.

Instead of re-gearing the 1/2 tons, my vote is for you to swap 3/4 ton axles in, maybe even a set of AAM's from a 3rd gen if you can find a set. You may even find a set with 4.10's already in them.
