Over the weekend, a friend with a shop and better tools/experience helped me replace my clutch, flywheel, and trans mount. What a humongous job that is. I think it would be easier to remove the engine and rebuild it.

The supposed "sachs" clutch I demanded the mechanic install two years ago when the stocker started going was some no=name crapper with a PLASTIC throw-out bearing that came out in pieces. Unbelievable. Disc was all glazed also. Clutch is so much better now with butter smooth operation. We even removed the pilot bushing and replaced it.

The cross-member was a real pain to get out but once we realized why, it went in better. Only thing that broke was one vacuum connector at the CAD which we fixed with another rubber elbow for pennies. Overall, it was quite an experience but I never, ever want to do it again. Ever.

If anyone wants tips, or a step=by-step, it's all still fresh in my mind. And now I have peace of mind. This was why I don't trust mechanics. This guy I had been to for everything the past ten years and so I wanted him to do the clutch right. With a Sachs. He screwed me. But its past the whopping one year warranty so I'm moving on knowing its all good in there.

Ooh, the stretchy kind! Those get all kinds of things done that are beyond the capacity of the rigid ones.

A short haircut, an ugly tie, and pants about an inch and a half too short, among other things that you probably don't want to think about.

I bet he found it on the shelf next to those 5 gallon buckets of prop wash.

Good for him if he did, after I stacked those boxes of range markers in front of them!

It was on the left side, behind the coils of flight line.
