Mopar stopped making them some time ago, so, finding one these days is the wildest stroke of luck.... Even if you DON'T need it, you should buy it, they are pretty much worth their weight in gold.

I'm hoping to get the heater box out of the parts truck and have the OE brass heater core rebuilt by a local radiator shop, if I can find one these days or send it to Brassworks out in CA to get redone. I only want to do this job once!! I've been unable to find any aftermarket brass heater cores these days anywhere...

Just finished pulling the complete heater box out of the parts truck this evening around sunset when the heat of the day has cooled down. Hardest part of the job was disconnecting the hard lines from the A/C core. Luckily, I had my M12 hackzall with me and it made short work out of them. Next project is to rebuild the box with a new A/C core, rebuilt copper heater core and fully sealed & working blend doors. If there is anything else I should consider during the heater box rebuild, please let me know. I only want to do this job once!!

Blend door USA, a site sponsor, I do believe offers aluminum doors and such for our trucks. Lot less likely to break than the factory pieces.

I plan to install those blend doors in the refurbished heater box. Just trying to find a discount/coupon code for them, as they're pricey..

No doubt! Right up there with the pride John Deere has in it's factory part prices - must be something about that green paint.

One thing i found the aftermarket brass/copper heater cores are like the aftermarket radiators. The row count is always less than oem. Since you are getting yours recored they should be able to match the oe one. They also don't give you foam that the core sits in. I replaced all my foam with sponge rubber rather than the same stuff the factory used. I believe the foam gaskets/seals that reproduced are the same quality. So in ten years or so it will disintegrate the same way. When you have the hvac box apart see if you can find sponge rubber the same thickness/hardness and replace them all with that.

I'd love to find somewhere that could re-core the old OE brass heater core. So far, no luck on that. To-date, the only option I've found is Brassworks in CA..

There used to be a radiator shop, or a machine shop in almost every block here. (dirt track racing is VERY popular around here....) But, over the years/decades they all disappeared. Now, the nearest machine shop is 40 miles away.... I think there *might* be one radiator shop left..... I had them re-core the radiator in one of my tractors a few years back.
