2001 QCSB 318/auto 4x4 113500 miles 10 city and my last road trip was 550 miles and at 75mph i only got 12.5 mpg. To me it seems like this truck ought to do better than this.

Not with a magnum. These babies were built back in the day when gas crested at $1.08/gal in 98.

I know this is in the Ram section, but I figured I'd chime in with my dakota

96 dakota 3.9 5 speed. roughly 22-23 highway and 18-19 town (sold this one)
My 92 dakota 3.9 5 speed 4x4. 19 highway and 14-15 around town

2011 1500 Crew Cab Big Horn 5.7 and 3.21 gears. 18.6 mpg on freeway at 75 mph. That isn't great mileage, but it sure is comfortable. John

I have a 5.2L 4x4 CCSB Sport that gets on average 12.8 in the winter and 14 in the summer (my commute varies from season to season). The best I've seen (and it was only once) was 17.5 on a flat highway. The worst I've seen was 9.2 hauling a heavy load. In the long run I don't mind hiding my money in the fuel tank, I love drive my truck.
