Default The First 1/4 Mile Run on the S/C 408 Indy....w/ probs

Well, I finally made it to the Drag strip. It was fun until I threw another belt...

So the first run sucked...layed drag until I hit second gear...I only chirped the tires before I staged...so wound up running a 16.3 time. A '70 Chevelle in the right lane SMOKED ME

Second run...smoked the tires good and got 'em nice and warm. Took off like a rocket and came out perfect in first gear, no spinning tires this time with a good reaction time I might add...hit second gear and all was good until I peaked, was about the shift to third and *pop* ....slung another serp belt 3/4 off the way down this run...still beat the 2010 chevy Cobalt (mildly tuned) with the thrown belt. And ran 14.9 @ 88 that run....

I was upset I ruined another belt, and then angry I didn't bring the spare...so had to leave it at the track...bummer. I did figure out the prob though..turns out the tensioner is only 5 ribs..versus the every other pulley which is 7 ribs. Also, when I got the truck, it came with a spare tensioner, which is 7 ribs....??? Why the heck was it not on the truck? So I'm gonna which 'em out and bring the new belt when it comes in (special order).

Side Note: I'm confident it will run a mid 13 1/4 if everything is working well and I drive good. I'm gonna try and take it back there next week to see if I can do better...
Met some really great people there! And got a connect for Mopar performance parts and cost...I know a guy that works for a Edelbrock performance shop now... YAY

Will post pics and vid soon...

To bad about the belt.
Surprised you didnt get a spare after the last time.
Great thing about going to the track is making new connections.

What was your short time & 1/8m times?

You would think he learned his lesson... Gotta get it the hard way I guess..

Now would be the time to go a cog pulley system, man.

That is the ONLY way I have learned my life lessons...unfortunatly

Can ya'll please indulge me about a 'cog pulley system' ??

60 ft 2.046 sec
330 ft 5.874 sec
1/8 9.321 sec @ 70.19 MPH
1000 ft 12.384 sec
1/4 14.98 sec @ 86.86 MPH

And that was my 'good' run of the night with a tossed belt going into third LOL
On the first run where I peeled out into second, it ran 16.36 @ 95.90
Still think low 13's is possible???

Hey Indy, does that make sense why the belt is getting thrown? Cuz the tensioner is short 2 ribs? Putting too much stress on the S/C pulley above it?

Dadgum truck runs strong and shifts good...just need to keep that belt on

If the tensioner is centered with 1 extra rib of belt over hanging both sides then I would guess that it should have stayed on.
If it was off centered with 2 ribs over hanging one side, yes that would cause it to toss a belt for sure.

Cogs setups are pretty expensive & will add a fair bit more parasitic loss.
They do eliminate all belt slippage though.
Not easy to setup either, have to extend the shaft of the s/c to extend the cog beyond the stock belt, machine a piece to extend from the inside of the crank pulley & must have efans.

Leaving the line is critical to good ets.
Only having a couple passes under your belt Im sure you can improve your short times.

5.8sec 330' time is on track for 14.0 et
9.38sec 1/8m time tells me you lost the belt probably at 500' mark (660'=1/8)
The 1/8m time is on track for a 14.7et

With improved short times & based on the 330' times, you may have been right on your intial guess.
13.72 (or slower)

Hope your going to a real track (1/4m) like Altanta Dragway seeing its so close?

^ LOL, no
14.0 et only takes about 260hp 310trq at the wheels
Slick said he got a 412/460 dyno sheet with his 408 seeing 10psi.
Clearly not making close to that based on how slow his ets are.

Slip below is from my Indy way back in spring of 99 (DP369)
That was with bone stock 5.9 from tb down.
Only had K&N14x2.25" MP PCM, 3pc u/d pulleys, Eddy hdrs, Magnaflow cat & muff. 392grs w/418 final on skinnies/slicks.
