Default What convinced you

Hello all, this thread is an idea born of the incessant boredom in my head.

What convinced you to buy dodge?

I'll start: Used to be a chevy guy, owned 3 of them before i got my ram. The turning point for me was: Hurricane Ike. We got hit pretty hard down here (lots of flooding, tree damage, whathaveyou), at the time i was riding around in a 92 chevy. Went through a foot and a half of water, It sputtered to a stop (preheater hose fell off air cleaner assembly, water splashed up in there).

Had a buddy with a 96 ram pick me up and tow me back. I should add that it wasnt lifted or modded in any way. We went through 4 foot of water without issue, literally up to the door handles at least. Only problem we had was when he let off the gas and water snaked its way to the front o2 and shorted it out (killing the truck). Pumped the gas a few times and it started right back up. I was sold

All American pickup trucks are ****, but the Japanese hadn't entered anything competitive to the fullsize market in 2001. I liked how the Dodge Ram looked, and the seats were comfortable. That's why I bought my first one. I got my second one for free because a friend who died left it to me. I bought my third one to gut and build a prerunner.

Because the chevy's were so outrageously expensive, and I couldn't find one in the configuration I was looking for. My current dodge was sitting on a lot that I had initially stopped at to look at the chevy they had their.... the dodge had more of what I was looking for, at half the price.... I bought the dodge.

I bought a Car Craft magazine in 1968 and on the cover was Ronnie Sox doing a wheelstand in his new Pro Stock 1969 Hemi Roadrunner. I always liked Mopars, but that closed the deal.
Of course I was only 9 ish then. So I had to wait about 10 years to get my hands on my first Mopar.

But I digress...fast forward 24 years.

Bought the 'ol workhorse because it had the right stuff. No power foo foo crap, no carpet, no leather.
Kinda like a '69 Roadrunner no frills, just the things you need to get you where you wanna go on or off road.
9 1/2 years later the only regret is I wish I'd have found it in a 2500. But I could fix that if I needed to.

What convinced me? It's a second generation Ram!

I can rework the few significant engineering deficiencies to make them go away and expect to get a helluva lotta miles out of the thing. I could be wrong, but I figure that by the time I'm done I'll have a truck as reliable as brand new but with a lot less invested in it, and without ever making a loan payment. It just doesn't get much better than that.

I got my first Mopar in 1976 and wish I still had it. If my wife gets her way we're going to have another '68 Coronet 440 before we die. When she wasn't busy hating it, she loved the hell out of that car.

To quote my uncle, whos automotive expertise I have fallen back on more than I care to remember: "Its a dodge! Second guessing the engineers comes with the territory!"

Havent had the pleasure of driving a classic mopar product, but if its anything like the viper I rode in with a good friend of mine, im sold on that as well. Topped out at just under 200mph. It was like being aroused at gunpoint.

Ain't that the truth!

I think everyone should, at least once, get to crack the butterflies wide open on a built 440, especially one with an equally built 727 behind it so all you have to do is keep it mashed and enjoy the ride -- and the sore neck afterward that comes from truly wicked shifts. There's something deeply satisfying in that.

My parents used to tease me that their cars went faster because they could pass up gas stations.
