Does look good GD. Just bought an HVLP gun from a buddy of mine. Did some painting WAY back in the day but that was a few years (and beers) ago so I've done forgot what little I did know. Haven't messed with any painting since but looking forward to playing with my new toy. Might have a few questions for you and kejobe later...lol.

So as I am preparing to slip off from the office for the day.....(do not tell ANYONE...) I had a strange thought. I sanded the entire truck and sprayed with 2K primer. I probably did not need to prime the entire truck, did I? Not that it was a problem, just extra cost I suppose. Just wondering for the next couple of paint jobs I need to do.

Personally, I think having a good base for your paint to stick to is NOT a bad plan.

Need to prime the whole truck...no. But, it will give you more to sand to get the work straight. All that would be needed primer are bare metal, filler, etc. If there is good adhesion of the paint already there, there is no reason to put primer on. Just sand exsisting paint with 600 and make sure there arent any shiny spots.

And DO NOT tape off in the middle of a panel for primer. There will be a tape line. Even if you sand it out, after clear itll be seen. More so with black or any other dark color. Just tape like you would for final spray.

Thanks. No tape on panels. I tape around the corner or on paper where it is wrapped, or on glass. I am hoping by the time I get this trucl down I will be able to do the next ones faster and better. Only have 3 more in the back yard to paint!

Shooting inside edges of doors and rocker panels now. Lots of taping. Hope to get driver side all complete today then maybe passenger side tomorrow. Waiting on replacement nozzle for Iwata gun with side mounted cup to spray the roof and hood.

Still don't think I have the left fender filler correcct, but will know for sure when I shoot it with paint. If not, I will buy a new fender and install it.

When I pulled the Ram out of the garage to turn around to paint on the cab, I decided to take a shot. It does look better in daylight.

Thanks dsertdog.

OK. Now after 2 coats of base......will clear tomorrow. Still waiting on nozzle for Iwata gun with side swivel cup to allow me to shoot roof and hood perpendicular to the surface. Will work on pass side tommorrow as well. masking takes some time to cover the whole opening, but I did nto want to be able to see a differnce in the paint when the doors are open. Cleaning the crud around the hinges (which have probably not been clean since 1999) took some doing.
