Default Not a ram, but need a little speedometer help

Ok, I just bought a '99 Accord with a 2.3L 5 speed to help out the Rams mpg. Has 154xxx on the clock, runs and drives with no problems.

What I need a little help with is the speedo DOES work, but, its off. While pacing my wifes 2012 Civic, at 40 mph my speedo reads 43. Now at 60, it reads about 64. And at 70, it reads 75.

Would the VSS cause this? Or would I need to take it to the dealer to reprogram the ECU? I havent found much online about a fix, but have found a few others with the same problem. I know the VSS can go bad and the speedo not work, or work intermitantly (sp?), but I dont think it would cause it to be off by a varying amount.

Any ideas?

I use this forum for the wife's 04 Accord... They are a bit slower with replies, but some of the guys know these cars

not sure if I can post that link or not... I'm sure I'll get smashed for it here on DF!

ok, I'll take a look.

Just checked speedo vs. GPS:

Speedo GPS

30-28
35-33
40-38
45-43
50-48
55-52
60-57
65-61
70-66
75-71
80-75
85-81
90-85

Now a DuraCrap VSS is $75. I don't want to spend the money if I dont need to, but I'm lost on this.

If you know it's off, and you know how much it's off, and it is consistent, just keep that in mind while driving, and don't worry about fixing it. The VSS is obviously working, after all, it's just a pulse generator... replacing it more than likely won't make the least bit of difference.

You could try pulling the VSS and cleaning it.......

If it is a tire size, or programming problem, speed should be off by a set percentage. The faster you go, the wronger it gets. If it is a variable error, might be the gauge.

I'd just let it go. It's pretty close. Motorcycles are usually like that also. The faster you go the farther off the true speed is. Maybe put a size smaller tire on it next time you get tires. That should make it a little closer lol.
