What can you do with your 1/2 ton truck?
I hear it time and again... Dodge 1/2 ton trucks get the best MPG for engine size and can tow far more than other competitor's 1/2 ton trucks. So, I wanted to hear everybody's stories as far as great MPG and towing. Here is what our 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9L V8 Magnum gets with the standard duty 4spd overdrive auto and no tow package: 20 MPG highway NOT towing, 8-12 MPG Highway Towing. Most towed yet: 10 tons. The rather funny thing is that a friend has a newer Ford Taurus car with the V6 engine, and it gets 15MPG if he is doing good (in tune)! Another friend has a 1996 Chevy 1/2 ton with their equivalent V8 in it, on fresh tune up, all regular maintenance and less than 120K on it, he gets about 12MPG he said. So, I want to hear all your compliments for these great Ram trucks! --Keagan

You are going to get some serious laughter at the thought of dodge trucks getting anything even remotely resembling "good" gas mileage. I lost count of the number of threads on here about folks looking for ways to improve their lousy fuel economy. Even the folks that actually make it into double digits. If you can manage 20MPG on the highway, you are doing better than 99% of the members here....
Mine is a 3/4 ton 4x4, I am lucky if I can hit 12 to 13 around town, and anywhere from 15 to 18 on the freeway...... Empty.

Not to argue with you, but I don't see any reason why everybody couldn't get as good of gas mileage on their dodges either. Standard 3/4 ton should get about the same as ours. But for improving MPG, I have found a lot of things that are simple enough to do that boost it greatly. Perhaps I ought to start a thread with what I did to get that MPG... didn't get that good when we first got it. I have some friends that have similar trucks that get about the same MPG.
