Won't matter until you are putting it back together. Rotate cranl into place, install lifters. install heads, and with crank it correct position, rotate cam as referenced by Mec (I believe). Check and timing set ought to be lined up.

still gotta track one down, or see if i can "rent" it from my neighbors shop.
Grabbed this outta the other thread. It's in your best interest to set it to TDC comp stroke before you tear it down.

Check where the Rotor is and the Cylinder on Exhaust stroke for absolute confirmation.

*threadjack*

What happens if you have an adjustable timing set, and advance the timing 3*?

Changes fuel sync, (not necessarily a good thing) Higher cylinder pressures, (more grunt down low, bit more power, greater tendency for spark knock.) May require higher octane fuel. (depends on just what cam.....)

I would experiment with various fuel sync settings, to see what works best.... dyno testing would be the hot ticket here.. but, not sure if that is even an option. (isn't around here..... nearest shop with a dyno is 80 miles away.... in detoilet.....)

block is down to just the rotating assembly. new cam is going tomorrow, and will be getting the rest of the top end together tomorrow too.

Merc, I am confused. Since cam is coming out and being replaced would it matter?

Redneck, is crank coming out for new bearings?

I have never cared about TDC on teardown.

I am just keeping it simple, we have done the oil pump alignment thing many a time, it just makes it ez'r if it's close to drop in for the indeterminate shaft and then the dizy.
