Default Gutting my catalytic converter

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 2WD 5.2L 3.18cu. I have the cherry bomb vortex (1 pipe in and 2 out) with the original catalytic converter. I don't have the money to make the truck louder, so I want to just gut my old catalytic converter. I don't care if the light is on, on the dash. My question is will gutting the catalytic converter affect my MPG or HP if so by how much?

It shouldn't affect the MPGs much, maybe get you a little more HP (a lot more if its clogged up). Make sure and take out your oxygen sensors (one in front of converter, one behind, unless you live in Cali or have a truck made for Cali). Put them back in, without them, you will lose MPGs and power.

Just thought I'd point out, that having a working cat on any vehicle that came with one is a federal law. Not just state/local . I'd get a magnaflow high flow cat if I were you.

I would not gut your cat..

cut it off and put a delete pipe in there, and sell your cat for recycling....do you know those cats are worth anywhere from $20 to $60 depending on what kind of vehicle they came off of?!

they contain precious metals like platinum in them that is worth a lot of money..
