I'm sitting down to draw up some wiring harnesses in CAD. I'll have the protoype ready fairly soon to show off Yes it's partially built already.

Curious? :P

The version of CAD software I use only runs in Windows 2000 so I have it in a VM on my PC.

lol the point was to show the fault in that way of thinking.

more displacement does not mean more power.

those little RX7 and RX8 rotary motors are a good example of that... so much power from such a tiny motor.


hell with the technology they are putting in these motors today, modern production 3L v6's are producing more power than the mid 90's Z28 I used to have with its production 275hp 5.7L...

and that is without turbos or forced induction of any kind...both are fuel injected.

The difference is technology advancements. Computer controlled direct coil ignition systems and variable valve timing can make a car idle normally at a normal RPM, and under acceleration and higher RPM change that valve timing to a more aggressive timing that would normally give a car a very lopey idle that would need higher RPMs just to idle.. so you can get closer to mild hot rod performance with passenger car manners and in a smaller package with better fuel economy.

The LT5 motor they put in the vettes back in the early 90s (32 valve v-8's) were barely making it to 300 HP......(Now, this model year only, you can get ONE Corvette for the price of TWO! and get half the performance!!) and that was considered a lot back then.... (well, to some folks anyway....) Today, we have six cylinders putting out more power, in four door sedans.... and that's WITHOUT variable valve timing, or other tricks of that nature.....

Thing is, more cubes does indeed equal more POTENTIAL for power..... and maintaining reliability.....

I just installed a mini maxx (h&s) on the old mans 07.5 6.7L cummins and they say for the delete tune you NEED to unplug the EGR (basically a delete without physically removing it...you just unplug it so it stays closed)

So if you are driving around with that thing plugged in you are likely blowing soot in the intake.

my cummins is smaller too who needs a 6.7L pffffft.

5.9L 359ci just a baby. I do however make ~55psi boost without turning the power up any... turning the power up it climbs to 75psi.

I did some craigslist searching and found a 1998 4-cylinder diesel generator. Produces 30kW of power and that will power everything we have on the farm and the planned expansion. We have a place to house it as well. Ideally we could get the transfer switch mounted on the power pole so it could power everything. And the 4 cyl diesel is fully mechanically injected as well!
Do a search for a military surplus outlet store or if there is any military bases close by sometimes you can go onto the military auctions. You want a diesel powered generator and can get a 15, 30 or 60 KW generator and most will have very low hours on them unless they had gone to Iraq or Afganistan. But most of that stuff was not brought home and was left in country. Get one that is trailer mounted so you can move it where you want. Or get one that is skid mounted and just set it in place. I do know they can be had for pretty cheap and are more than worth the money. The 15 & 30 KW gens came with White diesel engines. And they are 110v-220v 1 & 3 phase ready. This is what I did in the Army.

Not to mention that a 15Kw generator will power most houses.... the 30Kw certainly will. Get an auto-transfer switch, and never have to worry about power again.

Of course, a filtering UPS for sensitive electronics to fill the few moments between commercial power failing, and the generator picking up the load, would also be a very good idea.

A 15KW gen yes would power most houses plus some. On top of which the military always under rates things. So that 15KW is able to produce up to 25% more than it's rated 15KW. And they sip the fuel too. They also have their own fuel tank plus a 3 way valve so you can select to run the gen off a 55 gal drum if you want. Now if you only needed 10KW you could get a pair mounted on a trailer so you could switch generators if you were down for more than a few days. The 15 KW also can have it's oil checked while running.
The one thing you do need to watch for is that some gens are 400hz instead of 50/60 hz. Also that 400hz gen produces 240v/480v.

I have a 7.6 KW gasoline fired generator that can run my whole house if need be. I have a manual transfer switch. Not as handy in a power outage as an automatic switch but, so far there has only been one time that I have actually gotten the generator started and online before the power came back on.

A young fellow had a heart attack while driving his wife's car and sheared off a pole which cause a nice light show at the substation just outside of town. One of the big transformers cooked off pretty spectacularly. I could see the sparks from my place.

The young fellow survived.

We were without power for a little over 12 hours. It was a hot day and I had both of the window air conditioners going. The fridge and freezer were both going and later when it got dark we had the usual lights on, I had the computer on and the wife had the TV on too.

Survivor was on that night and she just can't miss that.


I had been wondering if the little genny could handle it or not and it did fine.
