I've recently started to notice that my headlight switch gets really hot. I had my truck running for say 40min. I went to turn off my lights and the switch body was really hot.
Is the switch bad???
Or is there a relay for the switch? If so where is it.
Not sure if this is still available from Chrysler anymore(CAJM8190 Headlamp Switch package) I would replace the switch, There must be some resistance in the contacts to heat it up. The harness is not melting so you good there. I did mine a few weeks and this is what i found.
"Before" and "After" are pretty relative terms here.... The switch provides ground path for the headlights, so, I suppose, technically, the relay would be 'before' the switch..... But, in any event, you want the switch to control the relay, and the relay to provide power to the headlights. LMC truck makes a plug-in harness for just such a purpose. Other folks make heavier duty relay harnesses for the same purpose.

The switch supplies a ground for only the fog lights, All the rest is positive. The ground is to turn on the fog lamp relay. At least that's the way it is on a 96.
