1997 Ram 1500 5.9 Sport. 124K miles. Rebuilt transmission, replaced water pump, alternator, serpentine belt, tires, shocks, all the ball joints, track bar, shackles, ignition coil, and spark plugs. Switched to a cold air intake. Installed custom exhaust... My truck= 1 big money hole! (NEVER BUY A TRUCK THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY PLOWED!!!)

I plow with my truck and it has been pretty much flawless to date. What you want to avoid is a truck that has been abused. Whether it was used to plow with or not.

And FYI...anyone that uses a 1500 to plow with is not using the correct class of truck. They are not HD enough to perform the task properly.

It's a phenomenal machine, the best-engineered vehicle I've owned in 40 years of vehicle ownership.

are you sure its a dodge? in several years of listening to people complain on the forum about problems with their trucks, i've never heard anyone say that....

Yes, you need to make sure that whenever you are purchasing a used vehicle of any sort you want to make sure that it was not abused. I will give you that much. However, when you plow a truck, there is going to be added wear and tear on the engine, transmission, gears, etc. I don't care if you drive a 12 valve 3500 dodge cummins with dana 60's front and rear with 5.72 gears. When you plow a truck you are putting more wear and tear than you would normally with everyday driving and towing, simple as that.

True, but, the heavier duty trucks are just that, heavier duty. The parts (aside from the trans...... ) are beefier, and stand up to the wear and tear better.

Now, that said.... if I was in the market for a used truck, I would much prefer one that HADN'T seen duty as a plow truck, no matter the weight rating.
