strange acting thermostat
here's one for you guys. i recently replaced my 195 degree thermostat and it acted strangely. if you're familiar with a dash temp gauge, you know 200 degrees is about the middle and about normal operating temp and it never goes much above that and 260 is the top. well with my new thermostat my gauge goes up to about 230-240 and then drops rapidly after the thermostat opens to its new "normal" of about 210 i'd say. i thought it was a bad thermostat so i replaced it again and i still have the same problem. at the same time i also replaced the radiator and heater hoses and in the process i broke the engine block temperature sensor and then replaced it too. what could this be?
to sum up: two different thermostats, one new temp sensor (near thermostat), all new hoses. i also flushed the system. the thermostats were stamped 195.
i think i have ruled out the thermostat so it must be the temp sensor right? but is my gauge behaving so weird and my truck appear to run too hot? it freaks me out to see it go up 235 degrees before the thermostat opens.
