Rear Differential...CASE CLOSED=)

engine oil is a little over 5 quarts. Buy 6. The transfer case is... .. well I honestly dont know. When I did mine, I spilt so much down my arm because of the awkard position. Buy 2 quarts. You will probably use one. And have an extra on hand for your tranny. Having extra never hurts.

Oh btw for transfer case fluid the only way I could figure out how to get it in there since a funnel didn't seem to work is I went to advance and bought this thing that screws into the top of the bottle and has a handle to pump with a hose coming out. You stick the hose in the hole and pump the pump and it pumps the fluid up and out through the hose. It was well worth the money for doing this job. I totally forgot about that until just now. You might want to go pick one of those up today.
Idk HTM. I buy the 5qt jug of Mobil 1 10w30. Pour some in the oil fliter and smear over the seal. Hook her up. and pour the whole thing down. 5qt's puts it in the safe zone. I use the 6th to put it to the top of the line. With that said, my buddys truck takes near 5.75 quarts - 6 quarts every time. He has a 5.9, i have 5.2. Im not doubting you, and the manual says 5qt's. But I know I go over 5qt's a tad, but my buddy's uses way more. I wish I knew why.
When it's cold you don't want it at the top of that line. You want it in the middle. Thats what I was always told. When you check it and it's hot it will be towards the top. Well, anywhere in the safe zone even the top will probably be fine but whe cold don't you want it in the middle? Anyway mine only takes 5 quarts. Anymore and I'd have overfilled it.
BTW for the transfer case I thought I'd just post this picture for you since when I did mine the Haynes manual was the most worthless POS I've spent money on. Well, actually that has been the case everytime I've tried to use it. I hate that thing and wish I'd never spent the money on it.
Anywhere the red here is the drain plug and the blue is the fill plug. Just thought I'd post it so you knew where the stuff was.

before you put an oil filter on , put some oil in the filter , no dry start , also dip your finger in oil and put some around the oil filter seal , seals better and takes it off easier , only hand tighten the oil filter , but we already know this ?? right ???
Ok fellas, it's excitment time. As expected, both the open carrier arrived with the spider gears, and the Yukon bearings and seal kit. So it is finally time to start this project. Just for extra excitment I just want to run down everything I have done in preperation for this job. While the truck has been on jackstands I have completely cleaned up the front differential, applied a new RTV gasket for it, and applied Mobil 1 Synthetic gear oil. So the front...is happy. Then I changed the transfer case fluid with Mopar ATF+4, so the transfer case, is happy. Then, I changed the motor oil out with 10w-30 Mobil 1 Synthetic motor oil with a napa gold oil filter. So the engine, is good to go. And then lastly, I cleaned the **** out of the rear differential housing till it looked like new, and cleaned the differential cover. So now I have the new open carrier, the new bearings and seal kit, the mobil 1 synthetic geal oil, and the rest of the parts from the differential ready to be installed back into the clean housing. I am very excited to say the least. I'm glad I took the time to change all the fluids with synthetic fluids while I was waiting. The open carrier looks to be in excellent shape as well, so I'm very happy with that. So, I will let you guys know when the project is done, and the truck is rolling once more
