Well, actually this one isn't notched at a ton cheaper.

I don't know what the difference is. It acts like it works for the LSD or the open carrier. You sure they aren't the same?

That's weird, the site is implying they are interchangable. But when I went to go stick that pin down the hole, it was too thick for the whole, I'm not sure now. But yeah, that's the part I need for sure. Thank you for finding that. I'll order it today and get it here quick as possible. Thanks Will.

Now I have seen that they make a 8.25" axle as well. Any chance the guy may have had an 8.25" axle and sent me the open carrier from that?? Would the open carrier from an 8.25" axle even fit in a 9.25" housing? Everything else seemed to line up and fit perfectly inside the housing except that damn pin. I'm just throwing ideas out there. I called randys ring and pinion, and as hometheater said, they are supposed to be compatitble with each other, it just doesn't make sense??

Ok, sorry to waste your guys' time. Just wanted to let you know I called the dealership and asked them if those pins were interchangable from the Trac-Lok to the Open Carrier. He said they are different. I wonder why Randy's is saying they are the same? Anyways, I just went through the dealer because I can get it tomorrow morning by 8am. So theoretically, I can pick it up in the a/m, rush home and pop it into the carrier and get the truck on the road just before work. That pin I have no is just barely too big for the hole, very frustrating. But ****, should be good to go by tomorrow morning

Nice. Yeah I don't know why they are saying it's the same. I'd think if he said it was from a 9.25" thats probably what was from but I guess there is always a possibility it's not. Anyway none of my business but if you don 't mind what did one of those cost from the dealer? I'm starting to like dealer parts more and more often as they just seem to be better than what you can get at parts stores. Our dealers around here are just rip offs so I find the price online at a OEM site and ask them to match the retail. It usually takes more off than I got when I got a 25% off discount through my old job.

Well, just for the silly pin, it cost me $40. However, they are the only place that has it. I called everyone (summit, advanced, napa, autozone), none of them even had it. So the dealer was my only shot, and I cannot afford to have this truck stranded anymore. I have work this weekened and I need a vehicle. Hopefully the pin will drop right in.

Hope you get it all back together soon. Is that guy coming back to help you put that in or are you doing it? Did he saying anything about your housing when he was working on it?

Yeah, I'm going to drop it in. He said just drop the pin in, and put the screw through the whole. But he said that c clip looked to have some good damage to it. He's under the impression the rearend isn't going to last long though. I think he is just saying that though because he wants to protect himself, but I think it is fine. When he got to my house, he said listen if this breaks "I wasn't here, and I didn't help you out on this". If it does break, I wouldnt fault him. I paid him $80. It's a hell of a lot better paying $1500 for a new axle, so he shouldn't worry about me going after him. So when he found the pin didn't fit he said he'd help me get everything put together, including the axle shafts and the drums. All I have to do is just drop that pin in there to lock the spider gears in place, put the diff. cover on and drop the oil in there. Hopefully it goes well , I just cant wait to drive my truck again.

I love life. I was very bored this afternoon and was just cleaning the truck up. Then I wanted to start the truck up to let the new motor oil swish around. Yep, forgot the truck was in neutral still, so the rear end started to move, and two of the spider gears fell out. Everything is all ****ed up and will need to be reset. I don't know if you have to take everthing back out or not to put the spider gears back in but I suspect you do. So now I have to make the sickening and embarrassing call to my mechanic back and see if he will come back over tonight and help me get everything set up again for the pin tomorrow morning. This is what happens when you have nothing better to do on a Friday, I hate myself right now..
