alright I need some help apparently. I have the quick disconnect tool, but I still can't get the line off. Any help? When I put the tool on the metal line, push in towards the fitting, then squeeze the tool and try to pull the line off, nothing happens. I've tired pulling harder, squeezing harder, pushing in then out, to no avail. please help.

EDIT: nevermind got it, just had to change my angle for some reason.

those spring loaded clips can be a booger when they have set in place for a long time.. glad you got it..

for others: sometimes, it's almost like opening a can with an old John Wayne, or the kind of blade thingy that you pry, rotate, pry, rotate- ect.. If you attack the fitting at say, 2 o'clock, and it doesn't budge? Move to four o'clock, six o'clock, eight o'clock- ect.. it will come off, and easily, once the spring set has been relieved of pressure all the way around it..

Hey squirrels what's the size of the flare to NPT fitting? You said you were gonna research the part numbers but I haven't seen any updates.

OK I have spent DAYS reading through everything and I am at a loss:
1997 Ram 1500 5.2 w/ a 46RE-
-Lost 3-4 shifting while out of town. I could get 4th to engage by going into neutral then back into gear. I drove about 175 miles home like that.
-I had a check engine light (NO OTHER LIGHTS!!!! IMPORTANT!!) Read the codes P0740
-Decided to replace governor pressure solenoid and sensor, and OD lockup solenoid
-Replaced filter and flushed system.
-Drove the truck about 30 min. and everything was GREAT. Then the OD off light came on, followed by the Trans temp light. Checked fluid level, A-OK.
-Read for HOURS and decided to eliminate the Check valve (Drilling it out is the MUCH EASIER than buying all these other parts)
-Drove truck again for 30min. Ran like a champ, then OD and Temp light, but no check engine light.
-Came home, disconnected battery for 5 min. No OD off light, no trans temp light. Drove it for 15 min. with no problems, then lights came back on.

OK So I know from all my reading that the 46RE is pretty much a Tow bill and a rebuild waiting to happen, but I think I should be able to fix this. My initial problem was no 3-4, and driving 175 miles with no temp lights. Now I fix the problem, and the thing wants to overheat?
So, my question is, where/how can I take a temp reading to verify an overheating condition?
Any other input is welcome!!! Please respond before I decide to fix this with my 12 Gauge "wrench"!!!

sounds like you toasted it, dude.. sorry about that.. by the time the trans temp light comes on, the damage to the fluid is done in most cases- or so I'm told.. varnishes polish those clutch surfaces in a way that ain't 'sposed to happen..

is the fluid burnt at all?

How much fluid did you lose when you took your's off? I have been thinking about doing that to mine, but don't want to have a ton of fluid dump on the ground.

Did mine and didnt lose enough to matter. Maybe a couple tablespoons, if that. I just did the tranny hose and two clamps.

I would consider swapping out the governor pressure sensor again. That's where the temp sensor is..... maybe a bad one?
