Dont worry Cameltoe, Im probably a bit older than you
LMAO, been online longer than one member posting in this thread has been alive!
As far as trailer wt ratings go
CTD in the 90s had lower trailer rating than the V10 in all configurations except for the 4x2 5spd. It had 1200lb advantage there. Dually CTD 4x4 only had 9200lb trailer rating compared to the V10 at 12500lbs (both 5spd) Auto V10s had between 1300 & 2000lb higher rating.
Moparchat/DTO banned member (arrogant SOB) back in 99 or 00 by the name of MrBBQ ran a 97 V10 11.9s in the 1/4m. He had tb, intake, mid level cam and heads with 10psi intercooled boost.
Another guy I cant remember the name of ran 10s with his V10 40 over and similar mods to BBQ. (can remember ets but names forget it)
In 00 at the track I race at (TMP/Cayuga back then) one team started using a V10 from a 99 Dodge Ram in their pro comp car. Mild V10, 60 over made about 660hp (crank) & ran mid 8s na. It was very consistant over the years cause they didnt have to rebuild it anywhere near as often as a V8. Motor was no where near its potential from what they told me. With boost & stroke could of easily been over 1000hp but wouldnt make it easier to run mid 8s.
Burnout sounded really odd with the 502ci V10, not sure but I may have video of it somewhere.

Guys, both engines have their strong and weak points, like anything else.
Which one is better is the one that is best for you.
For a daily driver, short distances, stop and go, towing the boat on the weekends, etc.......the V10 is MORE than adequate.
Running all day, 5th or GN hooked up, high altitude, long runs......the Cummins will pay for itself in less that 100K miles.
Maintenance wise........the Cummins is bone, stupid simple. Absolutely no different than maintaining a gas engine, it's actually easier. Yeah, it take 3 gals of oil, but that oil goes for 7500 - 10000 miles between changes.
Both of them are tuned WAY conservative from the factory and have an unreal amount of potential.
How you go about that potential is up to you. If you are comfortable with gas......go for it. If you know how to tune a diesel........hey, that works too.
It's your dime, it's your ride, get what you need.

New CTD are so much better and with the huge aftermarket support its pretty well a no brainer, that and the V10s been out of production for years
Side note, when I took my V10 to the dealer few years back (one I bought it from) they wouldnt take it as a trade for a new CTD at the time. I wouldnt take the CTD unless they took it so, looks like the V10 is mine for life lol. I use mine mainly for towing these days, doesnt quite have 50k miles on it yet.
Unfortunately you will be hard pressed to get rid of the V10 cause of mpg unless you almost give it away. Funny thing is, if you do a lot of towing, the V10 will get better mpg than the V8s did in the 90s.

Wow... a lot of people responded... cool! So now I know what people think about v10s and cummins. I got a friend to agree to chain up to my v10 2500. He has an 03 2500 with a 5.9 cummins. As we all know most people think the cummins will win. He has already lost to a chevy with an 8.1L v8 before so we will see. I think the 8.1 has more hp than the 8.0 but the 8.0 should have more torque. It will probably happen either this weekend or next. I noticed most of the people on here have never driven a truck with the v10. To someone driving a v8 around all the time a cummins probably feels great. I have driven them and they feel less powerful than my v10. However I was watching youtube and i saw some diesels that were modded that were absolutely awesome and obvioulsy stronger than any gas engine. The one I am going against is stock. Oh yeah, my v10 has never broken and my friend has his in the shop a lot. He's selling it to buy a gas engine..... hmmmmm And about europe and diesels...... I am german born and raised in Berlin. Diesels are used because they are more efficient which helps with the high price of benzine and they are more environmentaly friendly... They don't use the same fuel as here. They use bio diesel because of the tax breaks you get with driving one. There are also just as many gas engines as diesels there. And the reason those engines are powerful is because they are made in Germany by good engineers. American engines basically all suck compared to german engines. A cummins does not compare to a Mercedes at all. American diesels are not as good as american gas engines........... And as far as pulling, my truck does better on the highway and above 20mph... I don't generally pull boats to the top of mountains......
