Never mind the 90 degree bend, If there is going to be a restriction I'd have to say it's with the mounting bolt.

Isn't it possible that a larger filter could cause the media to collapse under heavier oil pressures (like running a high volume pump)? Just a thought on why the stock filter is the size that it is.

High volume pumps don't necessarily mean higher system pressures, but definitely higher flow rates (GPM). I suppose that if the filter bypass was stuck closed, then the filter media could collapse. I think filter size has more to do with how much filter area the engineer can get vs. space allowed and overall cost.

I woudldn't think so, the media is supported by metal.. if the filter is clogged enough to make a difference, it is beyond the point of needing to be changed, I would think

Default bigger filter

I've used the filter for the v-10 engine on my 1997 5.9l/360 since it was new.
Purlator use to list it for heavy duty service for the 5.9l but stopped showing it in their application book. WIX filters web site lists all the thread and gasket sizes for their filters as well as bypass and pressure ratings. You can find a filter that works for you and either buy WIX or use their number to cross ref to the brand you want.
WIX 51452 thread 3/4-16 L=5.178" OD 3.66", bypass 8-11 psi anti drain back, burst 415 psi, max flow 7-9 gpm, nom. micron rating 19

I work at an auto parts store that sells fram, wix, k&n and Defense Line (cheaper Fram without the orange color and name) and we get a lot of racers and wheelers in that swear by wix. its what i use on my rig and i've never had a problem with it. fram is absolute garbage though. we sell fram and defense line to soccer moms and shops that want the absolute cheapest filters. one of our customers set a land speed record in the salt flats and he uses royal purple and wix. thats enough proof for me.

you guys notice any difference in oil pressure with the bigger filter or need to add more oil...mine already goes a little over the full mark when i put 6 quarts in so im guessing it wouldn't be a problem for me

I saw no difference in pressure. Takes approximately 1/2 quart more oil.

Something just doesn't feel right about this. But it fits.
And my hard core Ford friend had a jaw dropping experience when he saw it.
