Look up on any oil filter manufacturer specifications for ford and mopar filters on engines in the 1960's V8s and they are the same. Ford just stayed with bigger size longer.

I just put a K & N 3001 on my truck. Damn that suckers big! My buddy has a ford and I change the oil all the time on his truck but the filter never seemed that big to me until I put one on my truck.

Does seem a little strange in a Dodge. Kinda like wearing a thong. It fits but I don't know if I want to be seen wearing one.

Imagine the conversation if I went to a Dodge dealer because my engine was making a noise and they saw that filter.
.
They come to me and say. "Sir, who changed your oil last time?"
I say, "I did, is there a problem?"
"yes sir, you have the wrong filter"

I say "Hey, if it fits, it fits!"

Did your truck come with the A/C lines insulated like that? Or did you do it?

Excellent observation!
It didn't come like that!
Easy though, pipe insulation and zip ties.
It's worth doing.

I feel like I might be a real ******* for asking this question but what is the point of the bigger filter? Does it filter better or something because it's larger?

Obviously .

The same reason I put an external filter on my transmission: More filtering capacity, larger oil capacity, and piece of mind.

I'll *** ume you are asking about the filter in the valve cover.
I had a hose running to the stock air cleaner but I don't have any way to connect it to the air cleaner now. So, I removed the tube and used the filter.
Peace.

Bigger filter lasts longer ... a small filter clogs quicker resulting in oil bypass (unfiltered oil is run through the engine) which results in increased wear.
