And that you asked for in the first place. So, yes, you are being very rude. I even gave you the quote right out of the owner's manual. Your head must be made out of concrete. You've already burned up one tranny, now you're on your way to doing it again. I know I won't waste my time with you in the future. Good luck.

I don't think that will be too much of a problem. He could just put it in 4wd.

I never got into the pissing match of you not listening to people. Mainly because I don't post in the threads to begin with.

However I do see it now. Everybody has given you the answer to the question you asked. You don't want to listen to anybody. Why ask if you have it in your head that we are all wrong or out to get you? Rex quoted it right out of a book and you still don't believe it. I also agree towing something that fast is kinda crazy.

Your still blaming your other tranny issues on tires. Come on man get a clue. There's guys running bigger tires then that with no problems.

Good luck with your new and improved stock tranny. I wonder how the shop will react to another "failure"

i believe that the engine makes max torque at 3200 RPMS
Also, leave the od off and deal with the noise! i guarantee my exhaust is louder than yours and i drive 3 hrs straight almost every weekend. so get some ear plugs if you can't take a little noise.

Yeah while my exhaust isn't super silent at those RPM's it's not that loud either. Honestly my tires probably make more noise than my exhaust at those speeds. I can just turn on the music and I don't hear either. It would be fine for me to hear for a trip. Nothing bad enough to need ear plugs. Do you listen to the radio? If I have mine on I don't even hear my exhaust really unless I'm really listening for it or have the windows down.

haha yea, i listen to the radio real loud! it can almost drown it out. luckily, i don't mind the drone. (hence i dumped the exhaust under the cab) however, once i get to my destination i can't hear as well for an hour or so. similar experience to mowing the yard on a rider for a couple hours.

Just because somebody gives you advice, it doesn't mean you have to take it. And if one doesn't take advice from another, it doesn't mean the person wasn't listening. It isn't like I asked about overdrive exclusively on this thread, I asked about what I should look for in general. The only thing I am questioning, is the notion of traveling on the highway with o/d off for three hours. To me, that seems abusive on the motor. I think when your towing on the highway, it changes things. Your going at a minimum 65mph, that's pretty darn fast. My truck shifts into overdrive at 48mph, meaning I will be traveling 17mph at minimum over overdrive. Unless I'm running into hills on the highway, it most likely is not going to have an issue of hunting gears.

My previous transmission was on its way out the day I bought the truck. Your going to say 35" tires don't effect a transmission? That's plain and flat out wrong. Yes, I sped the process up of killing it a month or two before its way out, but the transmisson had already begin skipping around badly way before it died totally. As I always say, it's easy to point me out for not listenting, because it's the "hip" thing to do on this forum. One would have to be completely ignornant to ALWAYS accept advice their given. I like to question and explore the advice I get. I will drive down the highway ar 65mph with o/d off. However, if I begin to feel like it's taxing the motor, or that it feels unecessary, I'm going to pop it back into o/d. Obviously I'm taking it out of o/d on hills or when the truck begins to struggle.

true, you should not trust every piece of advice you get. but when many many people on here that know a lot about these trucks and have had first hand experience as well as have looked it up in the manual tell you something you should probably follow it. i'm not trying to be "hip" and i understand that you want to explore the advice but it has been.

i understand 360 that you are concerned about the motor, but we're all telling you, myself included that your not wearing out the motor just cause its turning faster, thats the thinking of someone that doesnt understand how a powerband, transmission, or gearing works...by saying "ho hum, i guess cause the motor is turning faster its wearing out faster durp" you never listen to us anyway.

I understand that you have 4.10 gearing, but today when I went to go get some feed, I tried a little experiment. With 1500 pounds of feed in the bed of my truck, I had O/D off.
Cruising down the highway @ 65MPH RPMS were ~ 2300-2500. At 90MPH RPMS were at 3500.
It will be a little higher on yours, but it should be close to the numbers I have.
