p1762 code question
I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 4x4 318. My tranny will shift weird or rev up before it shifts. My check engine light comes on with code p1762. Next day or two i start the truck and light goes off and drives fine. Few days later it starts back up again.
Thanks for your help.

Might also be a short in the wiring harness in the tranny for that sensor.

Correct, no CEL at all. I just adjusted the bands/changed fluid and filter about 4k miles ago. There was only a little sludge in the bottom of the pan and slight shavings...no chunks. Should I try doing that all again? Im not positive how to adjust the TV cable either, and I have searched and not understood fully. Is there a really good write up on adjusting that? I was thinking about taking it to a tranny shop and having them hook up a scanner to read tranny codes...is this a bad idea?

Hi Monte. I've read all 27 pages and only one seemed similar to mine but was alittle different. I figured I'm post and see what you thought, if you covered it already I'm sorry, I either missed it or didn't understand. Anyway.
I just bought a '98 Ram 2500 with the 5.9 engine. I'm not sure what trans is in it. He told me the trans was just rebuilt in November (about 5000 miles ago). When I take off in first gear it kinda jerks sometimes and a few times it wouldn't move at all. The rpms never reved up, but it wouldn't move. Also sometimes I get a clunking and a screeching sound. That doesn't happen often, but still it worries me. I mainly notice it if I'm taking off from a stop and have to go uphill. Also I don't have a check engine light on, but it is sending a P0712 code and the code "can't be erased". The guy i bought it from said the check ball was removed and as far as I can tell, there isn't an aux cooler on it. Do you have an ideas what's going on? Did he just BS me to sell me the truck? I haven't pulled the pan or anything yet. I put some Lucus Oil Stop Slip in and filled the fluid to where it's supposed to me (after putting in the Lucus I put in about a half of a quart). The fluid doesn't look or smell burnt. I'll follow whatever you recommend though, your the expert. Thanks in advance.

Another problem...
ok as you know i took on water, and it wouldnt shift out of first.
flushed it 4 times today, and theres absolutly no sign of contamination any more.
Now it shifts to second but no third...will downshift fine as well..
hitting o/d does not make a difference...
it goes fine until its ready to shift to third...RPMS just keep climbing.
My old boss told me the water may have taken out the "drum seal" and with this bad it wont have enough pressure to shift....and to do this requires to rebuild the whole thing he said. Is this a possibility?
Also since the transmission took on water, the T-case must have (havent checked) could the t-case being contaminated cause a shift problem?
or Do you think it may just be the govenor pressure selenoid gummed up?

Ok good news MonteC, i took it for another ride tonight, and it still wouldnt go past 2nd gear, i said screw it, it wont hurt it if i gun it if its blown anyway, so i gunned it and at 4K she shifted to third
i slowed down, and it downshifted perfect
started going again slowly and it shifted to 2nd at 2200 RPMS, shifted to 3rd at 2200 RPMS, then i was going about 55, hit the o/d and it went right into o/d...shifted perfect the rest of the way home.
So im thinking when i gunned it, i blew some grim through the line...maybe it was plugged up?
So im going to do a flush with the machine to get the lines flushed...
all in all my trannys not blown
but can you educate me on this "drum seal" my old boss told me about.

OK so I took the truck for a cruise earlier today. I have a few other things that might help you diagnose my problem (hopefully). It doesn't seem like O/D is engaging. Going down the road at 60-65 I was turning 2500 RPM. Also, when you "cruise" to doesn't go into overdrive either. It's kinda hard to explain but I'll do the best I can. When you let off the gas and the truck is going downhill, usually (atleast with my cars and previous trucks) it would go into overdrive, the engine would almost go to idle speed, it's not doing that. I'm not sure if that makes any sense to you or not. Pushing the O/D button doesn't make any difference at all. I'm totally lost here.
