If you started the flushes early in the transmissions life then i would say it would be ok to keep on flushing, as long as you dont go too long in between flushes. Just remember that the filter needs to be changed.

Monte, I have read most of posts here and Thanks for all the great information.

This is the problem I am having.

2001 Dodge Ram Club Cab 4x4, 360 with a 46RE Automatic Transmission with 53K miles.

The original transmission valve body was replaced in 2002 by Dodge for the original owner because of erratic shifting.

The problem is seen with or without using the cruise control and with the overdrive enabled and disabled.

Cruising on sections of road, over speeds of 30 mph, the truck will simultaneously have a tachometer jump of about 100 RPM, feels as if the transmission momentarily shifts and there is a change in the exhaust tone.

I have all the pieces to remove the check valve assembly in the transmission line and that will be completed this weekend.
Any idea’s?

Thanks. Jim

Thanks. I'm pretty handy is a valve body swap pretty straight forward or should a good shop be able to fix what i have? i plan to do fluid/filter service soon so that would be the time to do it, i would lose the shift kit but i can always have that redone. I've heard that a shorted-out oxygen sensor upstream has caused similar issues, any thoughts on this? greatly appreciate your help!

Swapping a valvebody is pretty cake. But i would just re work the on you have. Sorted out o2 sensor? Any major feed back in the vehicles electrical system can have an affect on other components.

tv cable, TPS, governor pressure system, and the valve body can cause erratic shifts.

I would adjust the tv cable, check the tps. Then id install a sure cure in the valve body and clean out the governor solenoids.

Default 2001 ram trans issue

Hi,
I have an issue with my ram 2500 cummins.
The trans does not want to shift out of 1st gear unless I let off the gas and throttle up real easy.
I have done a fluid and filter change, relpaced the shift soleniods and tried to adjust the bands.
However when adjusting the front band the adjuster screw will thread all the way in without resistence. I am assuming that the band adjuster is broken. Can these be purchased individually? What kind of job is it to replace it? What harm will I do if I drive it like this?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Why do you assume the band adjuster is broken? Your adjuster isnt broken, its just a steel threaded pin. Two things have happened. One, the band strut has fallen out. You would have seen this piece in the bottom of the pan. Two, the lining of the band has come off, this is common, if the drum is not damaged too much you can bandaid the transmission with a snap band.

If the band strut has fallen out then it likely fell out because the lining of the band has peeled off anyway.

Yes if you keep driving it the drum will get more and more damaged.

Hi ive got a 95 318 auto and the reverse gear works but isnt great. I can hold the brakes while in reverse and give it gas and it wont move. It Barely pulls itself. However the forward gears seem fine. Any ideas on what to check or a new trans. Thank you for all of your help.

It was ran out of fluid after a cooler line came off (was refilled with Dextron/Mercon). Then it was shifted into drive-Neutral-reverse-park. It does fine if you are driving around town but occasionally does not want to shift up. Does horrible at freeway speeds. Keeps shifting between 3rd and OD. It doesn't do too bad if you turn overdrive off but has some troubles at times. Do I need a full rebuild or maybe just a flush filter and Bands adjusted? I have heard that using Dextron/Mercon rather than +4 would cause it to act up. Rebuilds are running $1500 or I can pick up a used for $600 out of a 96 2500 4X4. Would that fit in it's place?
