What high capacity pan do most of you run? I have the factory cooler but just need to keep it a little cooler. I plow snow with it and have dropped one tranny already. I just ordered a gauge pod and tranny gauge to go with the setup so if I do get hot I can cool her down. I was also thinking about putting an e-fan on the cooler itself with a temp switch to kick on at 180 off at 160. Sounds good to me. What says you monte.
I did not know this. The plan is to flush it and change the filter today. Hopefully I can afford ATF+4 all 5 gallons of it

I am sorry if I am being repetative but I swear I have searched and I can't find the answer/ I have a 96 2500 4x4 V8 360 with a 46re Trans. The truck went into limp mode a few days ago. I did the scan thing and got no codes back. I pulled the pan and valve body and checked and cleaned them both as well as cleaning the gov. The pan had no metal or debries of any kind and the fluid was not burnt. I am assuming limp mode cause I only have reverse and 2nd gear. No other gears. If I put the lever in 1st it won't move at all. Iam going to check all the connections between the transand the computer tomorrow. Am I missing something? Is there a bigger problem I'm not seeng? I know I prolly need to replace the gov stuff but I can't afford to do that till I know tat will fix the problem. Please help!

Thanks for the help thus far Monte. I am about to order the required parts for the rebuild. I have cleaned and installed the sure cure kit. I have a few questions after doing my research and reading others comments.
1. Have read a few people using a rigid front band rather than the flex band for durability. Do you recommend the use of a rigid front band instead of a flex? Does the rigid increase durability?
2. When adding additional clutches above the stock number and using thinner pressure plates, do you still use the same clearence specifications as stated in the FSM?
3. Have read statements which people qouted PACT and Suncoast indicating that a standard of .010 per clutch or steel should be used for clearences? Do you have your rule of thumb?
4. Best to go with single sided or dual clutches?
5. Would a transgo reprogramming kit or shift kit provide any additional benifit since I have installed the sure cure. Have read conflicting statments to not use them together / to use them together.?
6. Alluminum accumalator servo not withstanding, Is it worth the extra expense to use the more expensive oversized servos from sonnax and others...does the increased expense make up for durabilty with these items...such as the ones listed on the PACT site...although I see they do not use these in thier upgraded transmissions that they sell?
7. Lastly....what stall speed TQ would you recommend for daily driver/offroad/towing....a little lost on which to choose?
Thanks again for your guidance!

1996 Dodge Ram Van has tranny issues. The transmission doesn't shift properly. When placed in Drive, the tranny engages 3rd gear and stays in third gear at all times. This is not good for acceleration or for driveability since sometimes when starting or stopping the Van almost stalls. Only way for the Van to engange 1st, 2nd, and then 3rd gear is to manually shift from park to neutral, quickly from neutral to 1st, 1st to 2nd, and finally 2nd to 3rd. Fine for someone familiar with the issue, but not for the rest of the family. When computer is scanned, codes P0743 and P0753 come up. 743 describes Torque Converter Clutch circuit electrical problem, and 753 describes Shift Solenoid A electrical problem. Transmission was just recently rebuilt due to this issue with standard rebuild kit aswell as replacement internal electronics and the problem persists. Any chance of this issue being related to something that can be tackled without tearing the tranny apart once again? Any possible explinations for whats going on? What should one do if the local tranny shop who rebuilt the thing cant figure this one out other then hire another shop for close to 100 per hour to diagnose and repair the thing?
After thinking about the issue a little, I started to wonder about why the van would stall or almost stall when coming to a stop. Could the Torque Converter Clutch Lockup Mechanism be engaged by a faulty valve body when it should be released? If so, could that be the cause of the van stalling when coming to a stop? Could that also be the reason behind the transmission engaging 3rd gear when placed into drive instead of the normal 1st, 2nd, third? Is the valvebody the likely culprit or is something else responsible for this to occur? Thanks in advance for the feedback.
I know this is a question that's been asked before, but can anyone steer me to some info on my tranny not wanting to shift out of 2nd when at operating temp?
Was told that the solenoids are going out but I'm freaking cuase I'm moving next week and really can't have the truck go belly up on me. Thanks guys and gals.

Derale makes the deepest pans ive found so far. An axillary fan for the trans is always a good idea. And temp monitoring is essential.

If the truck does not pull off in manual first i would say there is a bigger problem.
What are you scanning the truck with?
