Didn't read all 6 pages, but did you get this worked out with Detroit or 4 Wheel Parts? This is why I'd never ever buy from 4 Wheel Parts. They have a horrible reputation as a store. Both in sending out wrong products and not wanting to make it right and in the customer service department.

I'd like to further add to the above comment regarding 4-wheel parts. I am putting in new diffs in my truck next week and, after speaking to many on this, all are in agreement that 4-wheel parts suck as does the quality of parts used.

They have no idea where / who makes the parts- could be China, could be Mexico, could be made in India- they just don't know. Now, while that would not be an issue <IF> the parts were made / cast / forged properly to code, many times, they are not made to code thus being cheaper thus wearing out or not performing as intended.

Many complain about the performance of the Detroit - gear style mechanism. Most I spoke with prefer the Auburn - clutch style as it locks up immediately out of the gate and, if anything is going to go south, it ends up being the clutch vs. sheared gears or it NOT locking when it's supposed to.

No its not worked out yet. I brought it up with 4wheelparts first, the detroit. Both say nothing is wrong with it. 4wheelparts is a joke. Yes i have had great service in the past from them, but in the last year it has been a train wreck. and yes cmckenna, when i had my stock 9 1/4 rear end i went through 3 auburn limited slips in a year and a half. Im a little hard on parts haha.

Wow, three Auburns? I know that they do wear faster than a geared model. I know why you go through them though- I watched one of those pulling vids that you posted on here and man, that's putting some strain on the components for sure. Very impressive gripping power.

I have a question:

What are you running for differentials at current and, what is the gearing that your running? I'm just curious here but, are you running around 4.56 gearing by chance?

Another question: does it chirp upon turning or around sharp corners? Any ratcheting type of noise when turning?

Again, just asking a few simple questions for my own research here.

I have the true trac, it doesn't have an official rating, it has a "torque output" limit. And I run 37s as well.

cmckenna, The bad part about them Auburns, when i broke them i didnt truck pull at that time. That was everyday beating it on the road. I guess our trucks are not ment to be drifted all the time lol. I am running a dana 60 front and rear. 4.88 gears and a half as detroit in the rear and an OX locker in the front. It does chirp around turns and i dont really hear the ratchet noise because my exhaust is very loud. The thing with my locker is it works on the road, just not under a load.

Do you normally run 4.88 gears around town with those size tires as your main setup or, do you switch over to match factory RPM speeds? That's a hell of a gear ratio to the tire size. Not that there's anything wrong with that but, I would imagine that the fuel mileage is not very good running those gears.

Why did you choose those gears- for pulling, more torque / power? Again, I'm just inquiring here. To me, it looks like your tire dia to gear ratio is offset quite a bit and, there must be a reason why you chose to do so. If so, do explain.

Yes i drive this truck most of the time everyday. I do drive my eclipse back and forth to work. But i have not problem running the truck through town or down the highway. I get anywhere from 8 to 12mpg depending on how i want to drive at the time. I run 37in mud grapplers all the time. No different tires for daily use. When pulling on concrete you need two things, Grip and to be able to spin tires as fast or slow as you need. 4.88's lets me do that with my engine set up right now. When i build a 408 ill prob. go down to a 456 or even back to my 410's.

If you look at the gear ratio chart, http://www.tellico4x4.com/moreinfo/ratio.htm , im actually in the middle.

The information that I missed was the tire size. In the photo, they look much smaller than 37 inches. That's why I didn't understand the ratio there. That information on tire size alone clears up all the questions. That's standard.

Thanks,

CM
