Anyone do a unimount bearing elimination
I was watching extreme 4x4 and they are working on a 2nd gen ram 1500. They installed a unimount bearing elimination to free up the front tires giving you the choice to lock and unlock the front tires has anyone thought or did this change?
There are kits available to convert the hub/bearing assembly, to tapered roller bearings, and locking hubs, but, the run well into four digits on the price tag... Would be a good upgrade, but, rather expensive.
I agree. Would make maintenance up front a LOT easier..... but, you would have to own your truck for a LONG time to make it worthwhile..... My truck already has 160K on it...... I don't think it has enough life left in it to make it worth my while.... See what happens though, if a pile of money suddenly falls in my lap, that IS one of the things I would like to do.
I was considering going out to one of the local yards, and seeing just what it would take to piece together a 'kit' from there..... Most of the kits I have seen are re-drilled (or new...) spindles, and assorted hardware. Not gonna happen till spring at the earliest though. Starting to get rather 'fall-like' here, and that just doesn't do me any favors.
MI, sweet I'm from WI. lol The cheapest kit I found was about $1350 but it would still be a sweet upgrade and maybe worth the money my truck only has 153K I start mechanic school next fall so I plan on keeping the ram and just restoring and upgrading.

The independent front suspension may ride nice, but, is EXPENSIVE to lift..... even more so than our trucks. I HATE the push button four by four. Two extremely expensive parts, one of which hangs out UNDER the truck, and both of which are prone to failure. Give me the funny little stick on the floor every time.
