Broken plenum stud help
You could probably get away with leaving it off. On mine when I replaced it my bolts were broken off. I thought it was a stud sticking up. I was afraid when I saw that it might be cross threaded, but luckily it was just broken.
Only if he wants to take it off again after the motor get's to operating temperature a couple times and the coolant start's spewing out.
Or God forbid, the intake cracks when the bolts are being torqued.

Hey guys.
Boy the broken bolt from hell. Anyway I ended purchasing a flux cored welder from Harbour Freight. I could never get the nut to stay on to help remove the bolt. Then my coworker had a better idea of welding a new stud to the old bolt. Well it looked great but the stud/weld couldnt handle the 12 ft/lbs torque and ended up breaking.
Sooo everything is reassembled minus the fan shroud and I need to add radiator fluid. I will fire her up tommorrow.
So the bolt won. I am not worried too much. The other 11 bolts were torqued down hard. If anything it would be a coolant leak. There are 6 bolts on each side of the plenum. The middle 4 close off the 4 injectors, the last 2 close off the raw water passages (two total per side).
That bolt put me back a week!
Wish me luck!!

Mine had obvioulsy been broken for quite a long time with zero ill effects. I am sure there is the possibility of what you are saying happening, but there is a difference between theory and reality.
In the future, smack the protruding stud with a ball peen hammer (authoratively, but not retarded hard), then let it soak awhile with PB Blaster. See if it wiggles. If not, continue rapping on it a bit, maybe soak longer. Still no movement, apply heat (mapp gas or oxy-acetylene; just don't melt it with the O/A torch), and tap it while it's hot. I've not had too many bolts I couldn't extract with those methods.
