A 241 is a 231 with beef'd up internals IIRC.

When mine go's, thats what I'm getting, a 241.
Looking at the pictures in the service manual..... yep, looks awfully similar. Guess I need to check that.....

You were told the snap ring was what happened, and if you plan on rebuilding yours, I hope you'll be getting a manual or a DIY somewhere. And the transfer case saver has directions as to where it goes. So what is the importance of knowing now? You'll need a lot more info from a manual or DIY. Or are you just going to wing it? LOL

I know the Transfer Case Saver will NOT work on a 241HD. The tail shaft is not removable. It has snap rings that hold it on from inside. So even though it has 4 bolts, it will not work.

the fluid level was very low, when i separated the case, only a quart and a half came out abouts....

I have a new transfer case, and i went today to find out that it is a 241...he told me the tag said 231....but i heard the splines are different with the 241...is this true? If not looks like i got a good T-case going in

Also i AM going to get the t-case saver for my 231....im rebuilding it over time....im just gutting the entire thing right now.....it needs a new casing, so i might not be able to rebuild it....

It's not a direct swap. I would stick with a 231 if I was you.

Have a look at the info on this site. I think you will run into drive shaft length issues front and back. The 241 is 2.58 longer and the output for the front shaft is further forward.

What do mean "WTF"? If you did some research before hand you would have known. Not only do I have a brand new TC saver, but I also have a 231hd transfer case that I spent 600 dollars to replace, in my 98 that has a clunk when in 4x4 when put in reverse, (which is why I bought the TC saver) but the truck got wrecked before I had the chance. But after the door debacle with you, I'm not even going there!

EDIT, and yes I still have the truck with the TC and the doors.

A quart and a half is right on full in a 231.
