Default Pulled My Transfer Case (Pics)

alright my t-case is blown, so i pulled it today. When i dropped it i noticed that i could move the output shaft back and forth, and when i pulled back and spun it, the front shaft (where the front driveshaft should be) would spin as well.

So i began gutting it out.

Now tell me, where is this "Snap Ring" supposed to be...i diodnt find one. looks like it goes in the groove where its flat between the splines, am i wrong?

Also i must add, this was really simple dropping this t-case...took me about an hour and 15 mins....i had the most trouble with the top bolt on the t-case....didnt need any jacks or stands...just used ratchet straps to the frame, and slid it right out.

heres some more pics of the removal

Be sure you install that transfer case saver when you put it all back together.

Just out curiousity, was your t-case leaking or seeping fluid?
Mine is doing the same thing....what was the fluid level in yours before you dropped it?

BTW, get the transfer case saver!

On the rear output shaft of the T-case, there is a snap ring, that tends to "fall off", and let the shaft, bearings, etc, "float" inside the case. This is bad, as they start encountering things they normally shouldn't. Transfer case failure inevitably follows.

The T-case saver, replaces that snap ring with a 'collar'....... preventing the aforementioned failure, thus, "saving" your T-case.

Just out of idle curiosity, does anyone know if this applies to the 241HD T/C as well?

^Considering the 231 and the 241 are very similar, I would assume yes, it would work.
A 241 is a 231 with beef'd up internals IIRC.

When mine go's, thats what I'm getting, a 241.
