Default Cam/hs 1.7 rr Questions

hey guys. im going to be purchasing a cam soon, and i was either going to go with krc's 206 or 210x cam, but have since heard they are junk. if they are junk what is a good cam to go with that doesnt require valvetrain upgrades? any help is appreciated.

TIA

i have since learned that i possibly cannot run both the 1.7's with a cam due to clearance issues. anyone to chime in on that would be great!

I haven't heard that rumor.... I have only heard good things about them. No personal experience myself though.

well i called southeast performance about ordering hs 1.7's and i told him they would be installed along with either the 206 or 210x cam and he told me they were junk and that krc was actually a bad company to go through. so im kinda having second thoughts.

Do one, or the other, but I wouldn't recommend both at the same time. I would think you will run into clearance issues on either the valve guides, or the pistons with all the additional lift.

KRC doesn't exist anymore... they were bought out by someone else.... don't recall who though. You could always look at the specs for the cam of your choice from KRC, and then find a matching cam from another vendor?

Ok 1.7s are the cheap way of getting more out of the stock cam, if you plan on gettin a new cam just forget about the 1.7's, never heard anything bad about KRC cams(customer service and shop work, eh heard 1 or 2 stories but that was a couple years back)
yes they were bought out and are now called watson peformance engineering here is a link http://www.krcperformance.com/

Just a lil info KRC uses comp cams and has them custum cut for them
and I wouldnt believe what one company says about another when there goal is to sell you there products

I just installed a Hughes cam with my 1.7's. The only issue I had was to upgrade my springs to handle the added stress with higher lift

If you decide to put a new cam in, I would suggest new lifters, springs, and cam bearings. If you are going to go that deep..... well, lets just say you can spend some cash and go all out, or go cheap and always worry about what you could have or should have done.

with a 210 in a 5.2 i would be little woryed to the design of the pistons in the 5.2 are diff than the 5.9.... u may have clearance issues

but with the 210 u will need springs,, and maybe diff tq conv to feel all the new power and gears

a 206 would be a better 4x4 cam also

i would just put rockers on

btw whats your plans and funds for the truck?

neither the 206 and 210x require any modifications to the valve train, i called krc and asked just to make sure. my plans are to get some better low end torque for towing and plowing as well as some decent high end power for better accelleration. i will be getting the sct and hughes plenum kit as well as a larger TB come tax time. my funds will be anywhere from 650 or so to 2k+ all depending on a couple things.

id say get the rockers instead of the cam, involves way less work.
