I mean, whats the worst that could happen?
I would replace the oil pump also and give it constant oil changes
within the first 10,000 miles

Hypothetically: You will get blow by on the piston rings and maybe you will just blow the whole bottom end of the motor on the ground.

The worst is, you could waste all kinds of time and spend all kinds of money (and have it blow up anyway) or get another truck for the same or less money, and just fix the plenum or some other minor things, to make it reliable.

ppl dont want to hear half assed jobs being done but if thier isnt any choice in the matter than do what you gotta do, might have to do it twice in the long run ,(from experience) but if no choice or money try it let us know how it turned out anyways

Find a set of used heads, spend zero on machine work or testing, and put them on the motor. The problem with going with new/rebuilt heads is that they will be 100% better for sealing over the old ones and that will just stress out the lower end of the motor. Buy just getting a used set and putting those on you will take away some of the stress.

well, like I said before, this isnt my truck. If it were, I would keep it and
get another long block for it. Since its my parents truck and not sure
if they want to put more money into this truck, I wouldn't know what
they would want out of it.
