I went through ebay and got a used engine (318) with shipping from WI to MT for $500 I replaced the plenum and water pump then dropped it in the truck it's been going for almost 3 years now with no problems.

went to the local JY and found 2 3.9's
They go for $100 each.

where do I unbolt them from in order to remove them
from the chassis?

just looking at your pic's looks if in the one of the valve train the push rod has gone through the rocker (might explain why the rod has jumped out the lifter) or is it just the angle of the pic ? bit late i know

Probably a handful of bolts engine to trans. Two motor mounts, and a boatload of wires. Not to mention four bolts for the torque converter.

i would remove the intake from both jy engine and find the one with lees grim/gunk.
also with the jy engine i would clip all the sensor wires about 1 ft from each sensor that way you know what wires go to what sensor. and you can spice them in if you break one off your old block.

i would also look on craigslist.com, you can find people in you area parting out rams left and right, mostly cause the tranny went, but the rest of the truck will only have like 100k miles.
