408 stroker build
On the crank? Or, just laying there?
On the crank: Just tap the rod bolts gently with a rubber mallet. (NO METAL)
Just laying there: Use both hands, and pull apart..... if that doesn't work, tap them on a wooden surface a couple times, and try again.

Probably not. Consider what they have to deal with when the engine is running.
Having the shop do it is great for peace of mind. If you don't plan on doing this type of exercise on a regular basis, then "Needing the practice" doesn't come into play.
Just have them shortblock it for you. Should be golden.

that certainly does come to mind... i dont know where "handle with care" ever came into play.
i had 4 pistons in, but there were FAR TOO many things worrying me. i took it apart and hope to take it up there tomorow. ill also have him clay it.
o ya. shortblock will do me just fine. heads are easy to drop on and the rest is cake

This might be a dumb ? but will the 408 still be good for towing?
I have thought about building one but I am not sure what the gas milage would be like or how well it would do with my trailer. Loaded my trailer weighes around 5500 lbs.

A 408 will out a tow a 360 any day of the week...ESPECIALLY if it's built for torque.
got the assembled SB back today. he said the valves just barely even touched the clay.
