Rear springs on the heavier trucks are wider than the half-tons. So, you would also need to change the mounts on the frame, and the pads on the axles..... along with the blocks in the rear.
as stated in your plowing post jeremy, the ride isnt much stiffer. its a truck, no matter what you do the ride will be stiff. diesel springs are amazing with a plow truck. my truck drops maybe an inch. i have an 8ft plow too. with my stock springs it used to bottom out and then some. now that i have the diesels its a whole different animal!
Thanks for commenting on my previous thread...I remember you saying that...that is why I keep going back and forth between spacers and bigger springs. I was just seeing if there were other opinions as well so I could make up my mind...I can be indecisive at times. I wouldn't mind the stiffer ride as much...but i need to keep my wife happy as well (ha...that opens a door for comments). I'm still leaning towards the spacers for the ride comfort when the plow is not on.
I just got a set of coils off a 3500 diesel to put under my 1500, before i dive into replacing them, just wondering if anyone who has done has any pointers? Thanks!
When calculating these lift numbers, keep in mind that HD's have much wider axles. If a 2500 sits 3" higher then a 1500, assuming the sprung weight is similar, you will most likely gain around 2" of lift from changing the springs.
Yeh that makes sense, for me 2" would be perfect, and the more rigid spring would be nice for a winch/towing and what have you, just wasn't sure if you need to compress the taller springs in order to install them and what not
For those running the diesel springs on their 1500: How much did they actually stiffen the ride WITHOUT any extra load on the front (HD bumper, plow etc...)? I picked up my buddy's old springs off his 2500 cummins and figured they'd be perfect for leveling out my truck and supporting the bumper i plan to build...
