Well I do not think mine is hammered yet. 98k miles, no smoke, not using oil.
I did look down in the plenum when I had air cleaner off had had little residue by the PCV area.

Does not mean it is not going to happen though so I guess I am going to start getting timing chain, water pump, gaskets and plenum kit a little at a time until I get all the parts.

Anyone have any luck with those Ebay plenum plate kits? They are like half the price of Hughes.

The ebay kits are a nice quality piece. It doesn't come with a Hughes Sticker, so, you don't get as much horsepower out of it.... but, you don't pay the premium price either.

Also, as said many times. Looking down the TB won't tell you anything. You need to remove it, and look around inside with a light and a small mirror.

OK, I just searched this thread for the word "weld" and didn't find it, so I think this tip from Novarider deserves to be a part of this thread. He made it in reply to OtisB ("Sick of plenum problems") whose (aluminum) plenum gasket repeatedly failed:

"You could take the intake and plenum plate to a machine shop and have them weld them together. As long as they are checked for leaks when it's done you should never have to think about it again".

That's what I'm going to do when I do my plenum plate kegger mod. Let's see that try to leak.

Maybe not in this thread, but the welding deal has been talked about many time's in other threads. I've yet to see anyone actually try it.

Yeah, I've seen it quite a few times too, but as the "end all and be all" plenum thread, I thought it belonged here.

Don't see why it wouldn't be 100% effective. Any good welder with a TIG or a MIG with an aluminum feeder attachment can do it. (Obviously, it has to be done with an aluminum plate, not the stock steel one).

If no one's done it yet, I might just end up being the first.

You are right, there is no reason it wouldn't work. Just all the talk and nobody following through.
