So im wondering would the craftsman be ok to use ? Meaning torquing the bolts in sequence starting at 25 inch lbs vs 12 inchs lbs at a time ? I really need a answer for this.. Because no one seems to ever answer me on any forums when it comes to torque wrenchs when working on the plenum pan... I also cannot afford $$$ wrenchs.. I only make $8.60 an hour so i need to go with something that will work and is affordable
I bought one from hf&one off of amazon both were crap...On my sbc with a performer intake I just made em snug...you can go to autozone&rent one for a 50$ deposit&get your money back when your done. They start of@20 in lbs so maybe do first step &then 24.But Im a noob to dodges but If I ever buy another ram&do the plenum Id snug em&call it a day.Good luck

Google gave me this:

1 inch pound force = 0.0833333333 foot pounds

You could always do the math and use a "regular" torque wrench on some of the higher numbers like 72 inch pounds.

The harbor freight is 20-200 inch pounds, I bought one and it worked fine. It does not "break" but you pull steady and it will click and the handle moves to the side a small amount.

first post,problem 2:
"""at 40-to-70 miles per hour ,and i go on the freeway and the truck let say it goes with 65mph
and if i press just a little the gas pedal the truck starts shacking ,for some reason, but if i press from the first harder on the gas pedal then i dont notice that shacking anymore."""

i still think my problem may not be from leaking plenum gasket,i may think is from crank sensor ,or maybe , engine was rebuild about 4-5 years ago,and the guys from that shop never did a "fuel sync reset" ?! or even maybe inside distributor that electronic part,

fuel pressure check okay,
cylinder pressure test ,i check a year ago and it was from 140-150

oh, i am lost with this truck, whats to do next, maybe just take it in and have it diagnose by a shop with one of those special machines...

thanks
I have the same problem. Your computer will probably start kicking codes 442,455, and 307. That is what mine is doing. I have tried on here but have not had a good answer. The codes are for a vacuum leak and misfire. Mine only does this when it has reached operating temp. If you come up with something please let me know and I will do the same.

I have the same one, just used it tonight actually. as for the 12 in-lbs or whatever it is.....I just backed off to the 20 mark then went back another 8 on the dial and it seemed to work just fine

Just got my intake back on tonight, finishing up everything else tomorrow. As for fuel, if you dont have one get a haynes manual. it tells you step by step how to safely release fuel pressure. as for the fuel line, you need a fuel line disconnect tool (bought mine at autozone for under $10). I pulled my plug wires just because I am replacing plugs wires etc anyway, but everything I've read says you need to. as for electrical plugs I got all mine off with just a little experimentation, and a small screwdriver in some cases.

Finished up my plenum/timing/water pump project today. Had to spread the work over several days due to family issues and that was driving me crazy....start, stop, start, stop. Had me pulling my hair out so when I started again yesterday evening I decided I was gonna finish come hell or high water. Worked thru the night and finished up with an oil change about noon today. I replaced the plenum plate with the alum. one and changed out the water pump and timing chain & gears plus a few other odds and ends. Whole job went great overall, with a couple of minor late night brainfarts. Truck fired right up and runs freaking great! Drove it for about 70 miles this evening and HOLY F#@&ING ****!!! I had hoped my truck would run at least a little better considering cost of parts and amount of effort involved...all I can say is money and time well invested! Could not believe how much better, smoother it runs; especially acceleration. And no more pinging! Anyway, I took some pics that I will post later with more details.

So I got my plenum done. I ordered up all the parts and took it to a shop; it was well worth the $480 in labor for me to not have the headache of all the broken bolts and stuff.

Truck runs F$%king amazing, definitely has more power and seems to run much smoother. Although it still shakes at idle a bit....

2 days later my waterpump goes, so I had that done as well.

Just had new tires put on, that was $800 and I've got a bad tie rod end at the pitman arm so they can't do the alignment. Apparently my track bar has play in it too but I don't think I'll bother with that. I'll change the tie rod end this weekend in the driveway probably.

I've got new plugs/wires/cap/rotor/ignition coil/Hughes plenum/water pump. Check engine light came on yesterday indicating a cylinder #1 misfire...WTF Seems to run great other than the shakey idle though.

I'm thinking about running some Seafoam through it today.

Any ideas on the misfire? Bad 02 sensor from the plenum problem? Bad cat from the plenum problem?

Depressing that I've spent about $1500 in the last week on a truck that's probably only worth $3000 and I still have a check engine light.

Check plug wire routing. There is a TSB in the faq section for that.

If your truck is high mileage, and the O2 is original, replace it...... NTK, or Denso sensor please.
