Default Steel Module

Can anyone tell me what the "steel module" is on this list? I want to order the parts to rebuild transmission, but cannot find this item in the manuals that I have and the websitre does not include a picture. I want to make sure I have everything I need (and hopefully understand what I am doing). Is the steel module and the friction module combined the disks for the clutches?

Thank you.

Yep, friction is the clutch, steels are what go between the clutches.

I am ordering the parts to rebuild this week. Went out and measured end play on input shaft. Measured 0.050. Is this the correct amount of end play? What should it be? Is taking this measurement just to make sure that it has the same amount when completed?

Thank you.

So while I am waiting on tranny parts, found intake at salvage to do kegger mod after the transmission work is done. First glance it appeared that I got probably the only one without the plenum gasket blown out (from photos posted on this forum).

Pulled pan and guess what?

Looks like it was leaking. I would not have known anything about this without postings from you guys. Thanks.

Default Planetary question

So I bought a pair of 6 gear planetary sets. I pulled down the OD unit today and am starting back together and just had something strike me. The planetary set in the OD is a 3 gear set. Will this create a problem or is this OK? I checked several places (including WITTRANS) and did not see a 6 gear set for the OD.

Just wanted to check before I screw up.

Thanks.

In the o/d the ring gear has to match the planet. The teeth are cut at different angles.

I have never seen a 3 pinion planet in the o/d, I would be interested in seeing that.

Default Must be the heat!

Don't know why I said 3. It has 4 gears. Either the heat - or I can't count....

Well there are two different angle gears, i know one is 15 degrees, and maybe 23 degrees, not 100 percent sure.

Default Trouble pressing OD clutch hub

I am trouble pressing OD clutch hub. I got about 9/16" and it started to bind as hub was slightly cocked. It galled slightly on the internal spilnes on the hub.

I had to use a harmonic balancer puller as I do not have access to the special tool for this.

Anyone have any suggestions how I can get this straight? I am going to use a jeweler's file to remove burrs.

Thank you.

You have to set it up so there is no pivot point. otherwise, it will never go in straight.
