Got it. I just really didn't wanna lose any frictions outta the deal. That seems counterproductive. But whatever solves the issue I suppose. Another tidbit, I did buy a new O/D hub from with because the splines in mine had a few small chips on the teeth. I'm starting to wonder if the top surface on my old hib was worn just right, and now this newer one is just somehow thicker on top...my old one does look a tiny bit worn.

Tomorrow I'll try with the old hub installed...worth a shot at this point. I wonder if removing the upper of the two snap rings (the wavy straight one) under the O/D clutch pack would give me the clearance needed...I just don't wanna remove any frictions.

Because it still falls below the specs on the chart in the manual which says 1.75 is as low as it measures for shim thickness. Which means not even the smallest shim offered will work. The .108-.110 shim. And the tranny guy told me today that 99% of his rebuilds take the .183 shim. Technically, I'm getting measurements that would reflect 6 shim sizes smaller than that.
