I have a Dana hardbound catalog (about 2" thck). It is not in the garage so it must be at my son's house. He is not answering and it's about 200 miles from here. Maybe you can find it on Dans's website.

Sorry I couldn't help. (nice press though....)

Thanks...wished I could have used it to press out these u-joints...lol Anyway, the ball sits in that socket and has needle bearings inside it where it mates with that stud sticking out. I assume the spring sits over the stud and spring loads the tension on the inside/back of the ball. The ball itself looks like it sits in a "cup" that may or may not be removable. There was also a black plastic or very weathered rubber dust shield over this whole assembly.

That is part of of a Double cardan velocity joint do a search for this doc J321CV here

http://www.spicerparts.com/axle/literature.asp

Also having a ball-joint/cross joint tool makes this job a little easier, these can be a pita to service.

Thanks guys, I have the ball joint/front end service kit...but the guy at the driveline shop said they can really be a PITA so I didn't argue. I told him I could press the joints in but when I saw the double cardan setup, I was intimidated. He said nothing to be intimidated about other than the kits for these sold usually don't fit like they are supposed to. That the whole flange may need replaced if he doesnt like the way the ball kit fits. The kit is $40 the flange is $90. He also told me they don't charge labor for pressing the joints in the rear shaft, but the front shaft they charge labor on for that double cardan setup. We'll see what the damage is tomorrow mid morning. I was at $125 before taxes for just the Spicers. I elected for the maintenance free ones, hopefully that wasn't a mistake.

Yeah living in the mountains of Colorado 2wd isn't really an option. Got the driveline back. Damage was $202.96. The kit worked fine he said, and he even polished up the rust on the slip shaft and laid a coat of paint. Thoroughly pleased. Time to get to work I suppose.
