I would pull a valve cover, (I think passenger side is easiest....) and roll the motor over by hand, and see what the rockers are doing. There should be a significant amount of movement there......

How did you reset the timing on the gears?

when i got the timing chain set i set the crank gear to top dead and turned the cam gear to match it. put the chain on put the truck back together. it sits there and it sounds like i pulled all the plugs out and tried to crank it over. my dad thinkd i bent push rods or valves. but zman said i cant bent valves from timing being off.

This is supposedly a 'spin-free' motor. Even if the chain breaks, pistons and valves should never meet.

What timing set did you get? If you have the multi-key guy, gotta be real careful how you put it on. Sounds like you still have that off some.

This would be a lot easier if you kept all this in your original thread. You did NO head work right? Just the plenum and timing chain?

You sure both ground wires are connected to the bracket by the power steering pump also? And you didn't remove the distributor right?

all i did was the timing chain plenum and a water pump NOTHING else... thats why i dont understand why it isnt running. and there is only one key way on the cam gear? and i think 2 on the crank gear. thats why i cant belive i lost everythign like this. would a bent push rod do this

Need to check your cam to crank timing relationship again. You best bet is going to be pulling the drivers side valve cover, turning the crank to #1 TDC, turning the cam till the distributor rotor is pointing where it should be Then put the timing set back on. (with the rotor pointing at number one, you may end up with both marks on the gears at 12:00 O'clock.)

Maybe you can skip the valve cover.....

the timing chains were both at 12:00 when i put everything back together? and i cant tell if its TDC on the crank because i have no compression. but i have compression when i turned it by hand when i had it apart

Stick a pencil or something in the number one spark plug hole, you will feel the piston coming up.

NO on the bent push rod(one). I believe you have a timing issue still. Not that it matters now. But , all you had to do to replace the gears and chain, was to rotate the motor until the dots lined up on the gears.(TDC is of NO concern) this way. Remove old and stick the new ones on in the same orientation and your done. However, you didn't do that. That's why I gave you those links. You need to start over and make absolutely sure it's right. No compression means the valves are opening and closing at the wrong time.

exactly valves are not opening when they should. so im going to tear it apart (again) andpull the valve cover off find TDC on #1 piston. pull the cap find TDC on the rotor put the chain back on and reinstall. after this i dont know what the hell it could be
