Default Any tips on a rear main seal install?

I removed the oil pan, removed the oil pump, removed the bearing cover that holds the lower rear main seal.

I am currently looking at the upper rear main seal and it really doesnt look like its going to go easy.

Just wondering from guys who have done this before if it was a major pain or if it came out fairly easy and if they had any tips.

The seal isnt leaking but I already have the pan off so I might as well get everything fixed up while I am in there.

I have read the DIY at http://www.pavementsucks.com/tech-article-31.html

Loosen up the rest of the main caps. Don't take them off, just back the bolts out 1/8 to 1/4 inch, so the crank can 'sag' a bit. Then, use some stiff non-metallic object to push the upper part of the seal around the crank. Something like one of the sticks from a box of tinker-toys would work great. (because that's what I used..... )

That's a great idea I have watched alot of videos and all have said to use a screw driver but dont hit anything metal. I never even thought about a hard plastic object.

Thanks for all your help this is about as far as I have ever been in a gas engine.

maybe your pan is different than mine, but on mine I do remember it was similar but once I got it on the right way it was a definite that it went that way. I think you'll know when it's on right. Again though yours may be different than mine

I think there is a red mark on one side of the seal. Check FSM because I cannot remember which side goes which way.
