Default trans temp

i've heard it all about heat killing a tranny but can it run too cool? my gauge(in the pan) never really comes above 130-140 even hauling my jeep. now that its below freezing it doesn't even move. just put in a new trans, lines, and cooler due to broken snap ring, just looking for some input?

im not gonna be much of a help on this one but i would assume that just like an engine, its bad to run too cold and bad to run too hot. not sure what the temp range should be at though.

Is there a way to check tranny temp with another device to make sure the temp you are reading is correct?

i think you can connect an aftermarket trans temp sensor and a new gauge to go with the instrument cluster

It won't hurt the tranny running cool. If it is too cold it just won't shift into OD.

Also gotta remember that the fluid in the pan gets there AFTER running thru the various trans coolers.

+1, the pan is not the ideal spot for the sending unit. The best place is in the line coming out of the tranny.

Or in the check valve, kill two birds with one stone. Idk if it's after the trans cooler or not though

Not! The check valve is too far away for an accurate reading.
