Default Check engine light came on today

On my way home my check engine like came on. I stopped at o'rileys. Here is what the code read

P0420

Catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 1

Any ideas. I'm guessing 02 sensor but wanted to check with you guys first.

It's telling you your cat isn't cutting the mustard. Fixed your plenum yet?

I got that on my Yota a couple of weeks ago. Bought new sensots and new cat. Installed sensor, cat still in box in garage. CEL went away. I checked with scanner and upstream and downstream sensors were reading too close to same values.

Probably would be best to replace the sensor first to see if the light goes out. Be cheaper and easier.

May try the nonfouler trick if you choose to run with no cat. I'm assuming you have a pre and post cat 02 sensor.

The previous owner replaced the exhaust. I'm not sure if he did a full cat back or not. It looks fairly new. I know he replaced it less than a year ago. I have the paper work somewhere.

Jswain what is the nonfouler trick? I am not sure which 02 sensors I have. I'll do whatever. I just want the code to go away.

I have not looked under the truck yet. I got it in oct and have put less than 1000 miles on it since. I have been using it more lately due to work.

Is it going to cause problems driving on it? I probably will not have time to look/fix it until this weekend.

If its just the sensor throwing a code then you should be ok to drive it until this weekend.
As far as the non-fouler trick here is the link to the DIY thread about it https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...converter.html
